Case a Designer with Hero Arts Vintage Travel

Delia made a scrapbook page that I found beautiful, using the Vintage Travel Digital stamps.on her first post here.  I cased this layout for a card.  Isn’t this layout beautiful?

I did not make my card as vintage as the layout, but I like it.

Close-up of the camera’s picture.

I used Judi-Kins Embossable Window Plastic with two rows of foam tape to pop the camera up.

The double row of foam tape keeps the sequins loose enough to move freely as seen below.

I hope you like my CASE of Delia’s scrapbook.  You can catch me at A Bit of This and That.

Casing Ola again with Hero Arts Pretty Blossoms Digital Download

Hi again, I hope your September is going well. I am still in my infatuated with Ola Khomenok stage and so once again I chose another of her fabulous designs.  This is a link to her video tutorial.IMG_8501

So, here is my layout in response to our current ‘Case a Designer’ challenge this month.

Jacobi-scrapbookpage-a2zseptno2e

The papers are some new ones I just got under the DCWV brand that have some lovely foiled copper pages throughout which allows you to make some beautiful embellishments to use in your design.  I wanted lots of different types of embellishments in my layout to make up for some of the amazing elements Ola has to use.  My main frame is from Dusty Attic which I embossed using green, pink and copper embossing powders.  My use of the Pretty Blossoms Digital Download played a large part in my use of ephemera, I printed them out on white card and then painted them roughly with some cheap glitter paints as I only wanted the colour to be subtle, cut them out and then added pearls and sequins or whatever into the middles to make them have a little bit of bling.  I do love my bling.

il_570xN-1.633673409_6g90

There are quite a few die cut pieces, but these are from dies collected over time and removed from their packaging, but obviously you just use whatever you have in  your stash and bring it all together, building up layers and then finishing up with a few more bits of shiny stuff.  All done, seems so simple, but it honestly takes me about 3 days to do a layout like this.  I am quite sure that I spend the most time just staring it and wondering what to do, what to use, trying to remember everything I have in my stashes. But, if you watch Ola, she just throws it all together, so quickly and effortlessly.  Clearly I need to practice more …. ohhh, if I have toooooo.  Like, my pleasure, hehehe.  I have done a few of these layouts now, to see more of them, please visit Jacobi Creations or my Jacobi Creations Blog.

That’s all for now, have a lovely week.  Delia

CASE a DT Challenge – Wonderful Stamp Cut with Winged Friends

kymona case wm 1.jpg

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s over half way through the month of September!

I’m catching up of making some birthday cards for my stash and I thought I’d CASE Kymona’s card here from November 2016.

Kymona nov 16.jpg

I printed this dragonfly from the “Winged Friends” Hero Arts Digital set and cut him out with my Scan n Cut, then colored him with Spectrum Noir markers.  The wonderful is from Hero Arts Wonderful Stamp and Cut set.  I used a Gina K Designs card base – love the thickness and high quality of it!  I think this stamp and cut set is becoming one of my favorites ever because you can use it year round!  Please see my list of supplies linked below.

Hope you will join us in this month’s challenge – CASE a Designer!

Here’s another view of my card:

Hero Arts Purr(-fect) cat lovers cards

Hello, hello! How is everyone doing? I hope those affected by storms, hurricanes and floods are safe and sound as well as on your way of getting your lives back on track, houses and yards cleaned up and craft rooms re-organised.

I have now been in a new house for about 3 weeks and slowly but surely getting it to feel like a home rather than just a building with our stuff in it. My craft room is another story… I can’t seem to get the flow right or getting furniture to fit ‘just right’ and it’s very frustrating. I feel a good flowing craft room is good for the mojo, if the room doesn’t inspire me I’m out of luck.. Luckily for me I made the cards I’m going to show you today before we moved, in anticipation of not getting into the swing of things very quickly perhaps. Also, sadly the Hero Arts CM131 Purr stamp set is sold out in the A2Z Scrapbooking Store but you can use the ‘Request Custom Order’ button to contact the store owner who will happily order it for you. The coordinating Hero Arts DI366 Frame Cuts to the stamp set is still available in the shop though.

Right, well, it’s probably time to get down to the crafty side of things, isn’t it? For these two cards, I’ve coloured the kitty cats with both Copic and Zig Clean Color markers, one card is clean and simple and the other one has a bit of everything going on!

For card no1 I started out by die cutting a piece of Strathmore Bristol Vellum watercolour card stock, using a Mama Elephant creative cut called Femme Frames. It gives a lovely scalloped border and adds a subtle bit of interest. I also cut out a few masks as I was planning on piling a few cushions on top of each other for one of the kitties to stretch out on. Using MFT hybrid ink in Black Licorice, I stamped up my images with a bit of help from my Mini MISTI and the masks I had cut out. Above the cat I also stamped up the heart image and the sentiment ‘lazy days are the best’. It just fit perfectly with my lazy cat! I coloured the panel with my Zig Clean Color markers and kept the colours quite intense, there is hardly any water added to the colouring at all.

Once it was dry, I adhered the panel to a white card base using a piece of foam sheet I had cut to size as well as added a few clear sparkly sequins with glossy accents. With that, the first card was done!

FullSizeRender 20

Onward to card no2! I coloured the cats with my Copic markers and used the coordinating frame cuts to cut them out. Setting these two aside, I got that Mama Elephant Femme Frame creative cut out again but this time I used pink card stock. My colour scheme for this card was going to be pink and grey, and the card base was cut out, scored and folded. I nearly added the pink card stock to it right away but thought it needed a little something to jazz it up. Grabbing an embossing folder with fish bones all over it, I ran the panel through my Big Shot with it and was happier with it. I still thought it needed a little something else though so with a mini ink blending tool I dabbed Distress Oxide ink in Picked Raspberry to highlight the fishbones.

In the same grey colour card stock as the card base, I cut out a fish tail banner using MFT Die-Namics Stitched Fishtail Flag. On this I again used the Distress Oxide inks and a homemade heart stencil to create a patterned paper. I also found a little stitched label in white card stock in my big pile of unused bits and bobs, it was the perfect size to stamp the sentiment ‘I’d spend all nine lives with you’ and I added one of the kitties to it using some foam tape. The other kitty was added directly to the heart stencilled banner, also with foam tape and this kitty responds with ‘I meow you’ which is cut out using the little speech bubble that comes with the coordinating frame cuts.

Well, with that I will leave you to enjoy your day and I hope I have inspired you to get crafty soon!

Happy crafting!

Taking A Moment

Hi, friends, today here on the blog we’re taking a moment to reflect on the devastation that has been affecting so many of our friends, family and customers. The hurricanes that have ravaged so many places have been on our minds. We thought maybe it might be helpful to let you know some of our favorite charities during this time just in case you were thinking you’d like to help out but maybe feel overwhelmed by the possibilities.

Here are some of our favorite places to send money and support right now.

5e41d0_6c912cb07abf4037bba3f1dd7fa60fd4-mv2

Undies for Everyone…go here to donate to Irma and Harvey Relief. They are a Houston-area charity dedicated to making sure students have dignity and hygiene through this one specific outreach. It’s an absolutely basic need that they’re addressing and you can help.

logo_fb

The Humane Society is dedicated to providing disaster relief for animals and are fundraising now for the hurricane-affected areas of the U.S. You can find out more on their website on how to help our furry friends.

One of our fellow crafters, Sandy Allnock, had the great idea to send notes and cards of encouragement to first responders—the police, fire and medic personnel who are some of the first people on the scene whenever disaster strikes. They are the people who go into an area when everyone else is fleeing. It’s their job, and they usually don’t like to hear they’re heroes, but we know they are and that any encouragement they get during this stressful time of clean-up would be appreciated.

hurricane-harvey-relief

Here are Sandy’s ideas if you’re moved to send a card. You can go to Sandy’s blog post here for specific addresses or ideas on where to send your cards.

Gulf Coast Card Drive for first responders

When sending cards to first responders…some tips:

  1. Send uplifting messages! Don’t tell them how awful it looks on the news. They know that.
    1. Thanks for supporting your community/country
    2. Be safe out there
    3. Praying for you (no proselytizing)
    4. Your wishes for them (dry socks and hot coffee, the joy in making a difference)
    5. A little about you if you wish (first name, hometown, fun fact)
    6. Jokes (yes, everyone could use a giggle!)
    7. Can address your note to Dear friend, Dear hero…or I go simple and start the note with “Hi there!”
  2. Card themes: Any general theme, or thank you/encouragement works. Patriotic is nice as they are service-oriented folks. But sunshine and flowers are great, anything funny, some masculine and some feminine. Something from the heart! The new stamp set HERE is awesome.
  3. Send drawings from your kids! Encourage them not to draw pictures of people drowning, even if that’s the thing that comes to mind. Have them draw pictures of people and pets being rescued, and tell them how old they are. Or just happy sunny pictures with big thank you messages. Kids can address their notes “to my hero.” No last names, keep those kiddos safe.
  4. Do NOT include gifts, snacks, inserts, tracts, etc. Just a card with a message in it. Don’t make it complicated for them to tack on a bulletin board to share with everyone.
  5. Expect no replies. This isn’t a penpal effort, just sending love and encouragement from across the nation.

And lastly, another fellow crafter, Danielle Wells (founder of Neat and Tangled), needs a little help for her father. Dan DiGennaro has a Go Fund Me page to help with medical issues following a knee surgery that ended up causing a whole host of pain issues. Dan is planning to get some treatment to alleviate some of that pain but it’s incredibly expensive. He’s very close to his goal but we can help him make it to the finish line. I cannot imagine living every day with this kind of pain and am so hoping this treatment will help him. There’s a lot more info on the page, including exactly what they are planning to use the money for.

thank-you-1400x800-c-default

And lastly, a big thank you for whatever you’re doing to make the world a better place. During disheartening times, it’s important to remember that good people are out there, doing good and making a difference. Maybe they’re on the ground, searching and helping victims, maybe they’re at home, collecting water and clothes to send to devastated areas, maybe they’re skipping a pizza night and sending $15 to help, maybe they’re just sending good thoughts and prayers and maybe it’s just a smile and a nod to a stressed mom or thanking the barista with a tip…we can all do our part and that makes all the difference. Keep up the good work—we need as much kindness in the world as we can get!

Hugs from all of us at a2z Scrapbooking Supplies!

Hero Arts Oldtimer’s Happy Birthday

Hi everyone! Leslie here to share a DT inspiration project with you today, a fun 3-D birthday card featuring birthday sentiments for ‘old’ people as well as a pop-up instant one-step camera from back in the day! Remember those?! I used several Hero Arts products – Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set, blessings Stamp & Cut, Intense Black ink, and White Embossing Powder.

Before I get to my project details, quite a few of the Hero Arts stamp sets have sold out recently in the a2z Scrapbooking store and unfortunately the Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set was one of them. I work ahead and had this card made prior to this stamp set selling out. Seems this has been happening to me a lot lately, lol. But I have good news – you can special order it at no extra cost when you order your other Hero Arts stamps from a2Z Scrapbooking!

The stamped image and sentiments on the front are all from the Hero Arts Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set.

2017_09040004a

I stamped a genuine (from the heart) sentiment above the camera from the Hero Arts blessings Stamp & Cut set in Hero Arts Black Intense ink. I went back to the Hero Arts Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set for the sentiment on the ‘instant camera picture’ which I embossed in Hero Arts White Embossing Powder. I had one of these cameras and I’m pretty sure I chuckled throughout the entire process of making this, lol!

Fall Coffee Lovers Bloghop with Nesting Tea Cup

Once again we are joining the Fall Coffee Lovers Bloghop, and we are a sponsor for the hop!

Today I have a fun card to share with you.  I used the Hero Arts Nesting Tea Cup Infinity Dies and created a faux shaker card using the inlaid die cutting technique.   A faux shaker card?!  Yes one without acetate nor sequins/beads/bits.

Instead of using sequins and beads, I placed a stamped panel instead in the area where the sequins would go.  So when the card is shake, the stamp panel shifts you see parts of the image only.  I have a small tutorial on my blog Escape To Stamping.  Take a look on how I put this card together.

The Nesting Tea Cup Dies are really fun.  I made a layered shaker card using the set, you could take a look here.  Besides using it all your coffee/tea/hot chocolate projects, the largest die is perfect for a shape card.   See this post.  Also I think this set would be perfect to make a mini book, a recipe book, perhaps cup shape ornaments?!  I’ve even made a charm for my planner, see this post.  Lots of possibilities!!  🙂  Check it out at the a2z Scrapbooking Etsy store.

a2z Scrapbooking was founded to help support charities for people with Celiac disease and those with Behcet’s disease. The employees are all volunteers so that every purchase you make means the most money for the charities a2z Scrapbooking supports. One of our favorites to support is Camp Gluten Freedom for children.

Thanks for stopping by and for supporting a2z Scrapbooking Supplies! Happy hopping!

Hero Arts CM179 Winter Silhouettes

Hi there! It’s Sue here with a new card. I love working on Christmas cards because  I love reflecting on my favorite Christmas memories. Here’s my card

.

I stamped the trees in pink – not really a traditional Christmas color. However, it reminded me of my Aunt’s pink Christmas tree from the 70s. I think that she was ahead of her time – pink trees seem pretty trendy today. I then stamped the child, sled and dog. For the sentiment, I used silver embossing powder and heat set it. I matted the entire panel on bright pink to draw out the pink color, even more! To add a bit of sparkle, I added some Nuvo drops White Blizzard glitter drops on the trees.

Casing a Designer with Hero Arts Feathers

Happy September all.  Delia again, with another take on using digital files, while also keeping it in the theme of “Case a Designer”.  Well, I have a few favourite designers, but at the very, very top is a most amazing lady called Ola Khomenok, she is from the Ukraine and her work is amazing, lots of layers, colours and just bits and pieces.  She uses loads of stencils initially when building up her page and then she makes what she does look sooo easy and it truly does my head in.  I watch her videos over and over again and am always left in awe of her talent.  I am trying very hard to emulate her style at the moment which I call “collage style”, but it really is just “Ola style” as she has a truly beautiful talent that I am actually very jelly of.  Aaaagh, but it is always good to have those that push us to be better.  I am not sure what my issue is in my difficulty in trying to emulate her style, but I think it has a lot to do with wastage.  I am frugal when it comes to using my large collection of flowers, chipboard, ephemera and bits and pieces as it all costs lots of money and I just don’t want to waste it – even though it isn’t really wasting it.  I know that Ola is on some major design teams and would be showered with product and deservedly so, but that is not reality for most of us and so I am very considered when I put my layouts together.  I also am just not yet as talented as she!

Jacobi-scrapbookpage-a2zsept1

So, here is my layout using the Hero Arts Feather Digital Cut file, which has the most awesome feather shape ever!  Clearly that was my hero in the layout, but I had lots of fun with this layout.  Firstly, I put the feathers through my Silhouette machine and then out came the Nuvo wax pastes in various colours and painted them and then I foiled them and sealed the foil off.  May I say how tedious foiling is…. those fiddly things and me are not the greatest of friends.  I truly did hide behind the door when patience was handed out.  So, I had a bit of fun with colouring and things, building up the layers, adding more and more bits and pieces, until all finished.

That’s all from me until another week passes when I shall return with another ‘Case a Designer’ layout, which will probably be all about Ola.  She is my current challenge and I am not giving up until I can learn her skill and put it in my repertoire.  So, be kind, be good and enjoy your inner creative.  Please visit me at my website www.jacobicreations.com or my blog at jacobicreations.blogspot.com.au
