Faux Embossing with Die Cuts

Hey Friends! Kristina here today with more Embossing Inspiration. There is still time to enter our Embossing challenge this month for your chance to win a $25.00 gift card to the a2z scrapbooking store.  Today I decided try some dry embossing, in the form of tone on tone die cuts, to create a faux embossed look! I just love this technique.

Hello You Faux Embossing with Kristina

I started with a Hero Arts digital cut file I’ve been wanting to use for a while now {link below} with this gorgeous peacock feather. I uploaded the SVG file into Cricut Design Space and sized it to a 2″x5″. Since this cut is so intricate, I mounted my white card stock onto some stick-it adhesive paper and cut on the cardstock+ setting.

I trimmed a card panel to 4 1/8th x 5 3/8th from the same white card stock and adhered the feather in the center.

I wanted an embossed sentiment, but also wanted the bold and crisp look of Hero Arts black dye ink, so I used MISTI to stamp Versa Mark ink on top of the black stamped sentiment, so I could clear emboss over top. You could skip this step and use a black pigment ink, however I find the Hero Arts black dye ink to have the best coverage and is the most detailed & bold black I’ve found.

After stamping and embossing the sentiment I trimmed it out and adhered onto a strip of glittery ribbon, wrapped around the panel, and mounted onto a black a2 card base.

I’ve linked below all the supplies used to make this card! You can find most of them in the store AND enjoy 15% off your order of $25 or more with my discount code KRISTINA15.
