Hero Arts Very Merry Tree Die

One Die, Five Cards | Hero Arts Very Merry Tree

Hi Everyone, Kristina here with some more holiday inspiration for your card fiesta this year!
So I’ve been really diggin’ the Hero Arts Very Merry Tree die every since I got it, I can’t put it down!
This is my second post with this die, head over here for a some more traditional colors, this time I’m doing the non-traditional christmas colors thing 🙂

Card Set Handmade Hero Arts Very Merry Tree

I sat down, pulled out some Hero Arts Layering Papers (discontinued) and went to town making a 6 piece card set
using just one die, 4 sheets of paper, and some white card stock.
Unfortunately due to an occupational hazard one card didn’t survive.

Hero Arts Very Merry Tree Die

My original plan was just a set of cards using the darkest and lightest color in the paper layering set
one shade for the positive space and one for the negative, but as I got working it turned into so much more, and really didn’t take me all that long. I’ll walk you though each design.

This was the first (and most difficult) card I did. I inlaid the light pool color into the dark pool.
What I didn’t realize was how tricky it would be. On my first (sacrificed) card, I adhered the main piece with the words down first then tried to piece the negative space inside. Because of how delicate and the scripty words are, they move and didn’t glue down in perfect alignment, so the pieces didn’t fit 😦
What I learned the 2nd time around was; run the light pool or inside layer through the die cut machine first and leave the pieces in the die. Add adhesive to the pieces that will be glued down while everything is still stuck in the die. Carefully flip the whole thing, die and all, over onto you card base. While that dies a little run your other color through the die machine. Remove your positive space piece, but keep your negative spaces for later! Now back on the card, carefully lift up the die and the postive space piece (save for later) and replace it with the one you just cut out. Doing it this way made everything line up perfectly for me!

The original look I was going for was the inlaid look from the previous card, but that ended up being more work than I wanted to put in and this one ended up being my favorite anyway!
I cut the die our from the lightest shade in the reds, I carefully peeled up the positive space (with the words) and left all the negative space piece in the die for later. I then backed the die cut with some of the light pool card stock, which I had glittered with some fun microfine glitter. I will probably make a bunch more of these.

Now I took the light pink pieces (still stuck in the die), added adhesive to the back of them, and stuck them down die and all to an a2 sized card base. Let it dry for a minute and carefully peel the die up. It was a little too plain so I did some ink blending around the edges.

I wasn’t ready to stop so I repeated the process from the last two cards, this time I used a shimmer pen over the negative space vs. glittering the cardstock, for a less dramatic sparkle.

Like before I adhered the negative space down to a white a2 card base and this time decided to create a frame using a rectangle die instead of ink blending around the edges.

All the cards got a nice sprinkling of snowflakes from last years Hero Arts Snowflake Confetti die.

  1. That’s the way to do it, well, minus the sacrificial card. Wonderful card set.

  2. Fabulous idea and cards!!!
