International Behçet’s Disease Day

Dear Crafty Friends,

Today, May 20th, is International Behçet’s Day.

Behçet’s Disease  is a rare, chronic, autoimmune, auto inflammatory vasculitis of unknown origin. It  currently impacts 16,000-20,000 people in the United States.  In the United States and Europe, more women are affected by this disease than men, but in the Middle East and Japan it affects more men than women.

Behçets is a multi-system disease with symptoms of genital and oral ulcers and uveitis (eye infections which can cause vision loss). It can also cause joint pain, gastro ulcers, neurological complications (such as neuropathy, strokes or seizures and language issues). It can take years to diagnose, because it is a process of elimination rather than a specific test. You can learn more about Behçet’s at http://www.behcets.com.

a2z Scrapbooking was formed in 2007 to raise funds for Behçet’s research and to provide an opportunity for children with Celiac to go to summer camp in a gluten free environment. Your purchases help these causes!

As the volunteer Purchasing Director for a2z Scrapbooking, I am proud to volunteer for a company that makes contributions to Behçet’s Disease research. I have had Behçet’s since infancy but wasn’t officially diagnosed until after my first heart attack at the age of 40 in 2001. I have had thirteen miscarriages. I have survived six strokes, seizures, macular edema, uveitis, and five heart attacks. Behçets has been a relentless disease for me.

Since there is no cure for Behçet’s disease I have learned to live in warrior mode to fight this disease, while enjoying my role as Purchasing Director of a2z Scrapboooking. It is a delight to work with our talented design team and staff while contributing to making a difference. And our customers are second to none!

If you would like more information about Behçets please go to the American Behcet’s Associations website.

I had planned to do a card with this post, but unfortunately my health did not permit this.

There is still plenty time to join in the fun and play our May challenge – Sentiment Focus.  Click the Current Monthly Challenge tab to get the details and link up.

Follow us on TwitterInstagram and Facebook and be the first to know about our special news and promotions.

Merry Christmas Layout with Embossing

Hello Crafty Friends!

It’s Elizabeth here, I am so excited to be posting today:) I made  a Christmas Layout featuring embossing, which is the first time I have done that on a layout!

My first step was practicing using the Hero Arts Merry Christmas Reindeer Stencil. I found that laying the stencil down on the Bazzill Swiss Dot and covering the letters using a Versamark pad did not work well. However it worked well for the reindeer. So instead I used a clear Ranger Emboss Pen for the lettering and touching up the legs and antlers of the reindeer. I then used Hero Arts Silver Embossing Powder with my Milwaukee Embossing Gun. The cardstock curled a bit, but running the embossing gun under the cardstock resolved the problem. I love how embossing on the swiss dots gave texture to the reindeer embossing.

reindeer

I then embellished the title and the reindeer using Hero Arts Holly Gems.

Next I cut a piece of Hero Arts Gernadine Layering Paper 7′ x 11″. The BoBunny Blitzen paper is 3.5″ x 12″. I then framed the Pigeon Forges Incredible Christmas Place photos with Hero Arts Pine Layering Paper. The top photo is only glued on three sides to allow the journal tag to be pulled out.

All paper pieces are inked along the edges  with Tim Holtz Brushed Corduroy Distressed Ink.

I used Hero Arts Large Tag Die to cut a journal tag from Bo Bunny’s Blitzen to tuck in behind the  top photo. The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby.

Next I made the Christmas tree embellishments. This was so much fun. I used a scrap piece of dark green paper and embossed Hero Arts Stamp & Cut Christmas Tree using Hero Arts White Embossing Powder.  I then used the included Christmas Tree Die and cut out the trees. I  used random Robin’s Nest Dew Drops and glued them on the trees using Glue Dots Mini Dots. For the stars I used the Stars from Hero Arts Summer Mixed Gemstones. These are retired, but star gems are easy to find:) I glued the back tree down and used Glue Dots Pop Dots to give the front trees dimension.

Here’s the final layout.

And to get you in the mood to do Christmas project here’s a video of the inside of The Incredible Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Don’t forget you have until tomorrow to enter this month’s challenge to make a Fall or Christmas Project.  And don’t forget to check out the Design Team Call.  Next Saturday is  World Card Making Day and we will be hosting challenges with prizes:) Be sure to check in with us:)

July Linky Party Winner

Hi, it’s Elizabeth here and I have the honor of announcing the winner for July’s Linky Party!

July Linky Winner

I loved how Heather first masked off the area  where she didn’t want the ink and then she stitched it to look like a quilt. And then after a water spritz she stamped an impression. And the rainbow of pastel colors  is awesome:)   Heather please contact us at a2zscrapbooking@comcast.net to get your badge and $25 gift certificate.

Today is an exciting day at a2z Scrapbooking. We are announcing our new Design Team.  It was a hard choice. All of the entries were fabulous and it was so hard to narrow it down but we think we got it right and chose a really great team!  If you applied and didn’t make it…please don’t despair. There will be future calls and we really hope you will try again. 🙂

Before we meet the new designers we have some sad news to share. Our Design Team Coordinator and Lead designer,  the ultra-talented, super sweet, always has a smile to share Linda Trace has stepped down. We are so sad to see her go. She has been an integral part of the a2z Scrapbooking family and she will be dearly missed.  We want to wish Linda all the best on her new endeavors and let her know she will ALWAYS have a place here at a2z Scrapbooking if she ever wants to return.

In her place we have hired a fabulous new replacement….Michelle Liimatainen (aka Skrappergirl). I am sure that she is going to do an outstanding job filling the position. Please give her all a warm welcome.

Michelle Liimatainen

Michelle

Hello everyone!  I am Michelle Liimatainen Yes, it’s 2 i’s in that last name…I get that question all the time. It’s Finnish. 😉 I married into it. I am American Indian and French. 😉 I reside in Massachusetts with my husband & best friend in the whole world, Ray,  we have 5 children and 3 dogs.  Life is chaotic, but fun, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have been scrapbooking for 16 years and stamping for 7.  I fell in love with the paper crafting industry after a scrapbook kit showed up at my sister’s doorstep.  I adored the cute pages my sister was making and fell in love. It was instantaneous!  The rest is history. I became a paper addict. Stamping came many years later. I found the Hero Arts blog and saw rubber stamping in a whole new way. I fell in love. I had to buy stamps!  Who knew so many stamps could fit into one room?!

I also have stepped into the art journaling world and my other passion is home decor with paper. I love to create decor for my house with paper.   I love gummy bears, Starburst, the ocean and iced coffee. You can see my creations on my blog Page Master Designs and in my photostream on Flickr.

Now meet our wonderfully talented returning designers:

Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Hi Everyone! Today s such an exciting day. I want to say Hello to all the new team members. I am looking forward to working with you! I am a single Mom of 2 adult sons. The youngest is a Senior at Purdue. He’s majoring in Spanish and Business. The oldest has special needs and is living at home with me. He works as a welder in a nearby Steel Mill.

We have 2 cats Mischief and Dustbunny who provide lots of laughs. Dustbunny gets her name because she as a runt and looked like a dustbunny with eyes when she was young. Now she has the special ability

to have found two tumors on me and she knows when my blood sugar is too low at night and will wake me up to tell me to go eat.

I have been scrapbooking since 2002. I had a heart attack shortly after 9-11 and wanted my kids to know my story. Now I scrap just because it is therapeutic 🙂 And I am a scrapbooker first and a card maker second. I am addicted to paper. I can just sit and look at it for hours. I really love the girly ones, but with two boys I rarely have an opportunity to use it.

I have been with a2z Scrapbooking since it started in 2007.  The company was started to raise money for Celiac and Behcets Awareness. Currently we are raising funds to start a local camp for kids with celiac. We are all volunteers at a2z Scrapbooking.. I really enjoy working there. I love being able to meet customers from all over the world. My blog is Visions of Paper.

Terhi

Hello, I’m Terhi Koskinen from Finland. I’m a mother of two girls, a loving wife, an effective employee and passionate horse girl and rider – but most importantly I’m an addicted papercrafter with lots of inspiration.

Scrapbooking is more than a hobby for me, it’s a lifestyle – it’s starts with the photograph session and ends when I get my creation where I want it, then it starts again. My creations are filled layers, straight lines, and techniques I want to try out. Mostly I do layouts (12″ x 12″), but sometimes I create art journal pages, canvases, cards and more..

You’re welcome to see me on my blog  http://tellimaria.blogspot.fi.

I also love iced tea and brownies, but not necessarily together.  My favorite seasons are spring and summer, but I’m not a big fan of winter! I have 24 nieces and nephews and another one on the way, so I make lots and lots of birthday cards!

I’m super excited, and honored, to be a part of this Design Team. You can find my blog here:  http://wadingincreativity.blogspot.com. I hope you’ll stop by and say hi!

Donna

Donna

Hi—I am a craftaholic and card loving maniac.  But first and foremost I am a wife, mother and mema.  My husband is a retired colonel from the U.S. Army, who served 30 years of service.  He is truly an amazing husband, father, and papa who is dedicated to his family and supports me in all of my endeavors.  I have a son, a daughter and three beautiful grandchildren, who are the loves of my life. My travels have been vast as I was fortunate to live abroad and in multiple states around the Country.  The most interesting thing about traveling is seeing all the beauty that surrounds the World which has shaped my life and eye for creativity.

I have always loved crafting and I inherited that trait honestly because my mother was a home economics major in college. Growing up I always wanted to be in fashion shows, because she would make me new clothes.  She is truly a talented and inspirational artist.  She makes quilts and wearable art clothing, so this is why I give all the credit to her.

Moving forward, I love Scrapbooking–traditional and digital.  I love, love, love making cards, altered art, and photography.  I always strive to integrate my joys that I captured or created in my designs to share with others through blogging.  I just wish there were more hours in the day.  Please feel free to stop by my blog and check out my creations.  Creative Lady

I find my style clean and simple and I’ve been hooked to card making for about two years now. I love to play with patterned papers, stamps and I try techniques to explore more fun in crafting. I also love sewing so you will see some of my sewn crafts and needle works at my blog. I am so happy to be able to share my works with you all. Please visit my blog at  Heart for Handmade

I work some days at our LSS Craft Fancy and some days I teach creative classes at the same store. I have been crafting and creating in some form all my life with my talented Mother and Grandmothers and now with my own Daughters. I enjoy sharing ideas with people and generally lean towards bright happy colors, although I am always up for a new challenge or technique. I continue to learn and grow and be inspired by the amazing paper crafting community.

Besides crafting & more crafting I also enjoy gardening, cooking, art, photography, dancing, spending time with family and friends. I am super excited to join the A2Z team. Zoey

Zoey

My name is Emanuela Zoey, but everyone calls me just Zoey because it is shorter…short like me! LOL . I live in a small town near Bologna, Italy. I have always been a “creative kid” , when I was little I remember the teachers told my family to let my imagination run wild, so they did. When I turned 20 I stopped drawing, I don’t know why, but I started again few years later, because I was bored lol! I started making cards and I’ve been addicted since! In the past I traveled a lot and by doing this it gave me the opportunity to find out more about the card making/scrapbooking world — which is a ‘niche’ world here in Italy.

In the beginning I was making only ‘traditional’ cards, now I have jumped into the mixed media world, a world where I can find again the little kid I was, where I can run wild and let my imagination run with me without any rules. I also love to create Layouts, Altered projects, ATCs and TAGS.

I get inspired by everything that surrounds me and I am not afraid of mistakes, I find mistakes can add a touch to the final artwork, because no one will know, except yourself. You can find me on InstagramFacebook and over my Blog

Kymona

Kymona

Hello, I’m Kymona Tracey. Who am I, you ask? I am a woman who never slows down and loves it. Yes… I am the energizer bunny’s sister! I just keep going and going (which is something that I am working on, if you follow my weekly wishes on my blog). I am a single mother of two wonderful children who are 8 years apart. My 16 year old son is a true self-made jock who plays every sport you can think of ! My 7 year old daughter is a real life princess who loves anything crafty and girly and absolutely hates anything related to sports. Talk about yin and yang! …but I love it!! Besides running from one activity to another with them, I work full time at a hospital (public health background), facilitate a reading group at work, teach high school students on the weekends and have a huge love of learning new things. I’ve taken classes in photography, web design, knitting, scrapbooking and card-making. I love them all, however, my true passion is card-making.

I was introduced to card making back in 2004 and haven’t turned back since. I started out as a hobbyist just making cards for family and friends. People were always ecstatic when they received a card from me. What they did not know was that it made me feel just as special to make a card for them. This passion pushed me into teaching card-making classes at work with a couple of coworkers who wanted to learn how to make projects for their families.

In September 2013, I made a big leap and created my blog, Kreative Kymona. Besides being a mom, I think that this has been one of my most rewarding accomplishments. Just being able to share with my world community makes life so rewarding! Please visit my blog Kreative Kymona Welcome ladies!  We are so happy to have you all here. Please come back tomorrow for our first official CHALLENGE, the Design Teams first official cards and enter for the chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate to the a2z Scrapbooking Store!

Thanks for stopping by. If at anytime you want to see the Bio’s of our designers again, just click on the Design Team tab at the top of the blog.

Thank you.
