Holiday Wishes

Good morning everyone! Jennifer here from Caffeinated Papercuts to wax poetic about the new Lime to Forever Green Ombre ink and the lovely new layered Christmas tree stamp set. Oh stop the groaning and humor me with a little Christmas in July, hmm? It’ll be worth it!

2015-07-15 08.23.47

Yeah, I heard those “oooo”s – shaped card ombre happiness! There is a tutorial video coming, too, but my editing department fell asleep last night before a voice-over could be recorded. Good help is so hard to find these days…

I used all (4) tree pieces to create the card and my Misti stamp tool to help me line up all the layers. The very bottom, solid layer is stamped with the ombre ink and looks amazing just on its own. From there I added more dimension with Field Greens, a deeper green, and then I added snow with the Unicorn White ink and some clear embossing powder.

2015-07-15 08.23.54

Ok, sad little secret – I don’t have a Hero Arts ink dark enough for the last layer so I used a different company. Turns out my green ink choices are pretty sparse! Must be time to shop…LOL

Once my tree was done I used the little snowflakes from the set and heat embossed a snow storm with white embossing powder. The sentiment in Cup O Joe finished the card front which measures 4″ in diameter. I mounted that with foam tape onto a 4.25″ diameter card base I created and this little card was done!

Today Was Awesome

Hi everyone – Jen here from Caffeinated Papercuts to share with you one of my favorite color combinations. Technically it’s a trio of neutrals, but when you put them together – my oh my! Better still, this is a quick card to make so you can whip up a whole stack of them for graduation, wedding, showers…any new beginnings you may have this summer. 😉

Whenever I’m stumped for colors, I love going back to the combination of white, kraft, and gold. Sounds simple, right? The results are so amazing!

2015-06-30 08.11.00

Are you loving it? I’m loving it. White ink on kraft paper is one of my favorite combinations, and the Hero Arts Unicorn Ink is the best I’ve found. Just look at that gorgeous background stamp! Cleans up like a dream, too – I simply rinse my stamps off in the sink and let them air dry.

For the middle sentiment, I combined two different sets – the Moments to Remember stamp set and the Thanks Stamp & Cut set.  (FYI, the Moments to Remember set is on sale…yeah, you’re welcome.) The Thanks set is where I got the little ‘awesome’ sentiment from – a little stamp masking and it was added into the bracket.

Since the Unicorn ink is a pigment ink, be sure to zap it with your heat gun a few times before heat embossing. Or simply get interrupted a million times by a hungry family, that works too…LOL

I wanted to turn this into a thank you card, so I added a little embossing on the inside, too:

2015-06-30 08.11.17

Here’s a breakdown of the steps so you can mass produce you’re own stack of awesome cards:

  • ink up your background stamp with white Unicorn ink. Trim your kraft paper to 4.25″x5.5″ and stamp. Zap it with a heat gun and/or let dry for a while. If you’re making a bunch, the drying time is no problem!
  • When dry, trim 1/8″ off the left & right sides for a bit of a border. Figure out your sentiment stamp placement, then ink up the ‘today’ and bracket stamps with VersaMark ink. Coat your card with anti-static powder, then heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
  • Let your embossing cool, then add more anti-static powder. Tape off the part of the sentiment you don’t want stamped, then stamp & heat emboss your ‘awesome’ sentiment inside of the bracket.
  • While you have your embossing supplies out, add the ‘thanks’ to the inside of an A2, top-folding kraft card.
  • For added dimension, trim down some craft foam to fit behind your stamped panel and adhere with super strong glue (I like the Tombow Xtreme). Foam tape works, too, but I like the foam for doing full panels – it’s more uniform and won’t sag. Adhere to the front of the card and you’re all done!

Bluebird of Happiness

Hey everyone – Jennifer here and I am in love with the layering stamp trend right now! Hero Arts has some fabulous layering sets and I couldn’t resist scooping up the bird on a branch – no one else has one like this that I’ve seen.

2015-06-14 23.00.36

Better still, they give you the layering directions right on the package! Yay!

2015-06-14 23.00.03

Now my first attempt did wind up in the trash as I totally did not think my color choices through before I stamped them. Turns out Passion Fruit+Cornflower Blue+Pool=one ugly bird. Oops. I also mis-stamped the second layer, so for this attempt I found which box had my Misti in it and chose lighter colors – much better!

2015-06-14 23.00.42

There’s a pretty birdy! I love the detail you get from the stamps, it’s truly amazing.

Colors used:
Bird – Soft Vanilla, Pool, Navy, Cup O’ Joe, Charcoal
Branch – Wet Cement, Bubble Gum, Green Hills, Forever Green

The background seemed like it was missing something, so I grabbed my Pool Dauber, some water, and a paint brush to add in some ink splatters.

Dab the dauber onto a non-stick surface (my craft sheet in this case) and then spritz in some water. Drag your brush through it and then tap-tap-tap over your panel.

2015-06-14 23.08.53

The result when dry are soft, coordinating paint splats. Love them! You could also use the Spray Mists or your reinkers.

2015-06-14 23.08.59

I wanted simple, so I trimmed the panel slightly to measure 4″x4″ and then mounted it to a 4.25″ square card base made from Mocha layering paper with foam tape. All done!

2015-06-15 07.45.18

Now, the Color Layering Bird stamps have been such a hit that they are currently out of stock, but never fear – to get your own set, just hit the “request custom order” button on the left side of the shop and let us know you simply have to have one. Easy peasy! 🙂

While you’re shopping, be sure to use code Jennifer15 for 15% off your total purchase of $25 or more…and if you’re not a fan of fussy-cutting, grab the matching dies as well! And be sure to enter into our June Challenge, ‘New Beginnings’, for a chance to win some store spending money.

Ombre Makes Everything Better

Hey everyone – Jen from Caffeinated Papercuts here to show you what I’ve been up to with those gorgeous new ombre inks!

2015-05-29 09.00.10

Yup, drooled a bit again…I love the colors! They are so much fun to use, especially with the beautiful background stamps available. Instantly make my own stamped, ombre background? Well don’t mind if I do!

I inked up the new Basic Gray Bold Flower Pattern stamp with the Pool to Navy Ombre ink and applied it to my white, top-folding, A2 card base. WOW. Now, my stamping was not perfect (no desk, surrounded by moving boxes…you get the idea) but I loved the distressed look it gave the card so I went with it. To cover the whole stamp with the ombre ink, I inked up the top half, then rotated my ink pad and finished covering the stamp. So looking at the card, it goes Pool to Navy, then Navy to Pool.

2015-05-29 08.59.59

Since that was amazingly fun, I grabbed my Light to Dark Purple Ombre ink pad and did it again, this time with the A Little stamp set. I love how I get instant ombre gratification with these inks! To finish off the sentiment, I added the word ‘coffee’ in Cup O’ Joe ink (hehehe) and then used some foam tape to adhere it to my card front. A little corner rounding and this colorful card was all done!

Now, both stamp sets are such big hits that they’re currently out of stock in the store. No no, don’t cry! You can Custom Order them in the Store. Just click on the REQUEST CUSTOM ORDER form on the store HOME Page! And when you do, and finish adding all of the gorgeous ombre inks to your basket, be sure to use code Jennifer15 to take 15% off your purchase of $25 or more.

Thank You and You and You!

Hi everyone – Jennifer from Caffeinated Papercuts here with a whole set of cards for you today. Yes, it was one of those times when I started stamping and just couldn’t stop!

2015-05-14 09.02.46These came together so, so fast. Honestly the hardest part was me messing with the silver thread! You can easily create these assembly-line style and have a lovely stack of thank you notes (or anything else from the Stamp & Cuts line) in no time at all.

The layers are simple:
-start with a top-folding, A2 card base
-stamp your background stamp (in this case, the big Thanks stamp) onto a piece of 4.25″x5.5″ white cardstock, then trim 1/8″ off each side to make it 4″ wide
-die cut the lovely ‘thanks’ sentiment out of foil paper
-die cut some vellum circles, big enough to fit most of the sentiment and hide the glue for the thread
-assemble: base card, stamped cardstock, silver thread, vellum circle, ‘thanks’ die cut

2015-05-14 09.03.10

That’s it! You now have a handful of beautiful cards ready for giving. Here’s a close-up of the colors I used:

Thanks for Being Awesome

Hey everyone – Jennifer here with one last stenciling idea for you before the challenge closes tonight! I’m rediscovering my love of vellum and decided to use it as a means to soften my stenciled image. I love bright, bold colors on a card but sometimes they make it hard to read or see your sentiment…vellum to the rescue!

I started by using my Deco Pattern stencil to jazz up some white cardstock with three colors of ink – Butter Bar, Cornflower Blue, and Green Hills.

2015-04-28 21.47.59While that dried a little (it doesn’t take long), I cut a piece of vellum the same size as my stenciled piece, 4″x5.25″, and heat embossed a sentiment in gold using the Thanks Stamp & Cuts set.

2015-04-29 08.22.45

See how you can read the sentiment and still see the stenciled pattern? Perfect! I used a bit of vellum adhesive on just the top of the panel so you can still flip it up and see the stenciling if you wish.

2015-04-29 08.22.51

Some adhesive to stick the whole panel down to some Candy Apple Bazzil cardstock and this fun card was done! Super quick and easy with stunning results.

Stenciled Flowers Mother’s Day Card

Hi everyone – Jennifer here, and I’m so excited about this month’s challenge! If you’ve followed the site for a while now, you’ve seen just how much I love my stencils, so having an entire month dedicated to them is just awesome!!

I pulled out one of my older stencils, the Large Lotus Pattern, and taped it down to some white cardstock with painter’s tape leaving a bit of a border around the edges. Deciding to try something a little different, I grabbed my sponge daubers and colored in the flowers with a variety of colors.

large lotus stencil background jennifer

After I had my color down, I cleaned off my stencil and then placed it back down to add some of the new clear embossing paste. My oh my does it come out pretty! A word of warning – it’s thinner than the standard embossing paste and smells a little bit. If you’re sensitive to such things, I’d just open a window. 😉 I then got distracted by other things, so I let it dry overnight.

stenciled background clear paste jennifer

One problem with that was I left it taped down, and the painter’s tape did not want to come up without a fight. Sooo I trimmed off the now ripped white border which made it the perfect size for a standard A2 card. I grabbed some of my favorite mocha layering paper for that (wait, it’s on SALE?!? I might need more…LOL).

I wanted a butterfly frolicking in my flower garden, so I pulled out one of the die cuts I had leftover from this card, added a bit of Wink of Stella to the body, and glued it down. To give it some dimension I fluffed up the wings to make it soar.

embossing butterfly vellum jennifer

I wanted to add a sentiment but didn’t want to cover up all that lovely stenciling, so I die cut a piece of vellum and heat embossed the Happy Mother’s Day sentiment from the Celebrate Everything set. That stamp set is still one of my favorites – it has everything! I hid my glue by applying liquid adhesive behind the heat embossed letters, then folded the top of the die cut piece to the back of the card panel. I adhered the whole panel to the card base and added some bling to trace the butterfly’s flight. All done!

Miss You

Good morning everyone – Jennifer here with a CAS card that is sure to make you go “awwww”. I picked up the new Hero Arts Baby Animals Stamp & Cut set and simply died of cuteness overload. The critters are so adorable!! I’m a sucker for bunnies, so I just had to play with that little cutie first.

Miss You Baby Animal Card Jennifer

You just went “awww”, didn’t you? It’s ok, I keep doing that myself. 😉 I tried out some no-line coloring and I have to say, it’s a bit challenging at first but really fun.

– I stamped the bunny in Soft Pink ink. The idea here is the lighter, the better!

– Coloring time! I pulled out my Spectrum Noir markers and decided on a gray bunny with a pink nose and coral ears.

– I wanted to add the stitching details back in, so I used a .01 multiliner pen to add them back and draw in his whiskers.

– To add a little definition, I used a drop of Ranger Black Enamel for the eye and let it dry.

– For the shading around bunny, I cut a mask out of the Stick It paper and covered her up (after the eye was dry). I then used a small sponge and Soft Yellow to add the background color. The nice thing about the paper is that I was able to just tuck it in the stamp set when I was done for next time.

– I stamped the ‘miss you’ sentiment from the set in Charcoal ink and the little heart in Ultra Pink. A bit of Glossy Accents on the heart and a quick corner round up top and this card was done!

Sending You Love

Good morning everyone – Jennifer here from Caffeinated Papercuts with a fun spin on coloring it in, our March challenge. Did you see that stunning paper-pieced Renaissance Heart that won our challenge back in January? I was wowed by it, and decided to give it a try myself with my Fancy Die Butterfly (which is back-ordered at the moment, but it will be back!)

2015-03-15 Sending you Love

I started by die cutting the butterfly five (5) times – once out of white for the base, then out of various papers to get a fun mix of colors. I then carefully inlaid the colored negative space cuts back into the white butterfly now attached to the front of my card.

2015-03-15 11.14.18

After everything was in place, I stamped the “sending you love” sentiment onto the bottom corner of the front panel, used some foam tape to pop it onto my standard A2 card base, and this CAS card was all done!

2015-03-15 11.14.32

Supply list:
Hero Arts Fancy Dies Butterfly (back-ordered, so keep an eye out for it’s return!)
Hero Arts Pool Mixed Layering Paper
Hero Arts Sunshine Mixed Layering Paper

Celebrate Everyday

Good morning everyone – Jennifer here from Caffeinated Papercuts with a card that is fitting for every day of the year:

2015-02-15 Celebrate Everyday2

Keeping our February challenge of Embossing in mind, I broke out the embossing paste and one of my stencils to create the background of this card. I concentrated it to the bottom right of the cardstock to help highlight the bits & bobs I knew I was adding. While I let it dry, I stamped three of the elements from the Not Perfect stamp set with my Hero Arts shadow inks and fussy cut them out. When the paste was dry, I trimmed it down to 4″x5.25″, glued the two bigger circles right on top and used some foam tape on the third. A piece of fun foam was trimmed down to 3.75″x5″ and used to pop the decorated piece onto a standard A2, top-folding card base.

For the sentiment, I grabbed some Mocha layering paper, white embossing powder, and my Celebrate Everyday stamp set. Some quick embossing and trimming of the edges into a banner, then onto the card it went with foam tape. A few clear sequins to add a bit of sparkle and this card was done!

2015-02-15 Celebrate Everyday

I love the fun, slightly messy feel and that it would work for any occasion. Besides, the colors remind me that spring really is coming!
