Hero Arts CM172 Mix And Match Monsters

Hi everyone. It’s Sue here with a new card.

When I saw this Hero Arts stamp set, I knew that I just had to have it. The monsters are so cute and the parts can be mixed and matched. I’ll admit, it’s a bit fiddly – lots of small pieces. What I did, I started by stamping the three monster bodies, then the arms, legs and antennae, then the eyes and mouths on some 96 lb bristol. I added colour with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a water brush. I added glossy accents to the eyes for a bit of dimension and shine. I added shading with a copic. I trimmed the panel and matted with black. I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set.

Digital Layout with Hero Arts Artistic Circles

Hello All.  Thanks for stopping by A2Z scrapbooking.  Today I have a completely digital layout for you which was actually a bit of a blast from the past for me as that is how I initially got into scrapbooking.  Being a graphic designer, it seemed a natural way to go, however, I then started looking at the hybrid way of doing things and now I have a craft space filled with all sorts of goodies.  I love crafting the hybrid way, but it is also quite fun to do it digitally, especially with these lovely digital files from Hero Arts.  This is the Instant Download Hero Arts Artistic Circles DK044 Digital Kit.

a2z July Layout flat

When you purchase this kit and download it, you will find that there are some little extras included, such as papers, some tags, a clip, snowflake and a pearl.  Firstly I grabbed the papers and created my background.  I used photoshop to create this layout, but there are a number of programs one can use or use a free online program called pixlr.  The same as creating in a hybrid way, this works by layers and is what makes the use of shadowing important.  If shadowing is not used, the layout will look very one dimensional and flat.  In came the beautiful panel of circles which I used in the background paper panels.  You can adjust the colour of the background circles or on any of the digital elements or you can make them different levels of transparent.  I then used the large circle as my main focal point, however I needed it thicker.  I did that, placed it in position and deleted the circle pattern behind this circular area, simply so it did not look confusing or too busy.

On went my photo panel, which led me to wanting a few more elements.  For this, I dived into my old stash of online elements bought from various packs from Sweet Shoppe Designs.  There is an endless supply of digital elements available to use along with the Hero Arts digital products on this site, combining them together makes for a really lovely layout.  So I found some ribbon, lots of flowers, sentiments, buttons and other bits that bring this layout together.  Remember, when working digitally, you can adjust the colouring on things so they match your layout perfectly.  As I mentioned earlier, I used the little pearl that comes as part of the the Artistic Circles Digital Kit from Hero Arts.  Everything has a shadow on it as this helps to make it more realistic and not flat, which is really important to the overall finished look.  I hope you like it and if you haven’t tried doing digital scrapbooking, do try, as it is quite fun and a really great way for those to scrapbook that are on a budget or low on space.

Hero Arts ‘Nicest Thoughts’ and My first post!

Hello, hello, everyone! Erica here with my first post as a DT for a2z Scrapbooking Blog!!  In case it isn’t abundantly clear, I’m very, very excited to be here! If you know me from my other design team blog posts for Krumspring Stamps, Studio Katia and Kennedy Grace Creations, you already know this isn’t going to be a short and sweet post. Oh no, I’m a jibber-jabbering kind of gal (that’s ‘going into lots of detail’ in Erica speak and ‘talking non-stop about everything and nothing’ in The Husband speak) however I will try and curb the enthusiasm enough to actually get to the cards I made for this, ‘my very first, in case I didn’t mention it’,  post.

Unfortunately I didn’t get my DT package in time to make these cards so I had to improvise with some of my other Hero Arts products but anything you see in this post can be ordered from the shop. Just pop an email across and if it can be obtained, it will. Like magic! That’s the kind of shopping I like!

Anyway, I have this stamp that says ‘You are one of my nicest thoughts’ (which sadly isn’t available from neither the main Hero Arts store or the a2zScrapbooking Supplies shop) but I decided to use that for two cards anyway because the sentiment is so lovely. For the first one I dusted a rectangular panel with anti-static powder before stamping it with VersaMark ink and sprinkling generously with Hero Arts white embossing powder. I set it with my heat tool, which isn’t as fancy as this one but does the job.

For the second card I stamped the image with black ink first and then added clear embossing powder over it as I planned on colouring this one with my Zig markers to add some colour to the image. I always use Strathmore Bristol Vellum water colour card stock when I colour with the Zigs by the way. As I was planning doing some ink blending and using the Peacock Feather Stencil (If you don’t fancy a Peacock theme, find other similar stencils here)for the background, I kept the colour scheme for the image in the same colours. Does that qualify as ombré or rainbow? Something to ponder…

When I had added the colours to the word ‘NICEST’ on the image I thought it didn’t really show so much so I blended the colours out around the word, kind of like a colour shadow and was much happier with that. While I was at it, I also coloured the circle around the sentiment in a rich blue colour. While that was drying I got my Distress Inks out and decided to go hot pink for the white embossed panel. Picked Raspberry is one of my favourite colours in the Distress Ink family and I’m so excited to hear that it is going to be part of the second release of the Distress Oxide inks! Ah, but I digress… Right, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where I was going to go next though: I blended away on the panel and kept it lighter in the middle and rich and vibrant around the edges.

For my Peacock Feather Stencil background I used turquoise, lime green and teal colours, again Distress Inks, and simply blended away until the colours very nicely… erm… blended? I use painters tape when I do ink blending and water colouring to hold the paper down, it’s so cheap at hardware stores it seems crazy to splash out on ‘crafting tape’ when I use it only for this purpose.

As pretty as the background was I felt it needed a little something else so I die cut the second biggest of the Outside In Stitched Rectangle stackable dies from Lawn Fawn and popped it up with foam tape (I love this stuff and can’t live without it!) After that was done it was a simple case of adding some more foam to the back of the sentiment and pop that on. I also added a healthy dose of teal sequins and gemstones for sparkles. A card with a peacock theme can’t be bland, can it now?

To finish off my pink card I die cut a scalloped panel (both the die cut bits I used for this card are from Mama Elephant) in a pretty polka dot card stock and adhered that to a white card base. The embossed and ink blended panel I adhered with foam tape to raise it up and add some dimension. This card also got a serious sprinkling of sequins and gemstones, because why not?

FullSizeRender 4

With one last picture of the Peacock card, that’s pretty much it from me for this first post. If you are still here, you deserve a big cookie! I will be back on the blog later this month with another project or two, and of course lots more jibber-jabbering. There is no getting around that, I’m afraid, lol!

I hope I have inspired you to try one of these techniques or colour schemes for your next card. Don’t forget that this months challenge blog theme is ‘Anything Goes’ so go to town and let your imagination run wild! Hero Arts CM130 Color Layering Hydrangea Shape Card

Hi! It’s Sue. Can’t believe that it’s almost the end of June. It’s crazy how fast time flies. I have a shape card here for you.  Here’s my card

I love the Hero Arts Color Layering stamp sets. It makes creating beautiful images so easy – Hero Arts has done the “hard work”. I just need to align the various stamps. With my MISTI, it’s pretty easy. There is enough variability on the bloom “background”, that orienting the upper layers requires a bit of rotation, but it becomes pretty obvious where to stamp the upper layers. I fussy cut the bloom. I repeated the process for the three leaves.

To “fit in” with this month’s challenge here at a2z Scrapbooking, I made a circle card. I cut the card with a 3.75″ circle die. I adhered the flower, overlapping the edge of the circle and attached a purple banner, with the sentiment from the same stamp set. The card will still fit into a regular A2 envelope.

I’d Never Forget You a2z Scrapbooking Supplies and Hero Arts

I’d Never Forget You a2z Scrapbooking Supplies and Hero Arts!!! Hello dear friends, Martha Lucia here to share with you another shaped card and my last card as a Designer for a2z Scrapbooking Supplies. These two years have been amazing to me but I am leaving the team because I need to take care of some personal things but I want to let you know that I love my time sharing with you and creating with amazing products.

I'd Never Forget You a2z Scrapbooking Supplies and Hero Arts

To make my card I used a Circle Stitched Die Cut that I cut twice. The first time with the card stock folded to create the card base and the second using a single layer of card stock that I decorated and pasted over the base.

  1. Use the Spiral Petals Stencil and the Hero Arts Aegean Bold Ink to create the background with the ombre effect. I used a sponge to have better control over the effect.
  2. Stamp the flowers including on the stamp set Color Layering Hibiscus using three different colors of ink. For the base I used the Butter Bar and for the accent I used the Red Royal, colors included on the collection Water Lilies Layering. For the center of the flowers I used Hero Arts Moss Hybrid Ink.
  3. Fussy cut the flowers or use the corresponding die cuts, Color Layering Hibiscus Frame.
  4. Stamp the leafs using Hero Arts Moss Hybrid Ink for the base and Hero Arts Pine Ink.
  5. Fussy cut the leafs or use the corresponding die cuts, Color Layering Hibiscus Frame.
  6. Assemble the flowers and leafs on the top of your card using dimensionals and snail adhesive.
  7. Stamp the sentiment from the stamp set I’d Never Forget You using Hero Arst Intensive Black Ink.

Hero Arts Special Birthday Digital Kit DK116 Take Shape Card

Hi! It’s Sue and I have a new card to show you. It would be a good card to enter in the current monthly challenge at a2z Scrapbooking. More about the current challenge, later.

Here’s my card

I started with the sentiment, from a Hero Arts digital kit (details below). I’m still not very good at using digital stamps. However, I did figure out how to change the colour, from the standard black to a nice royal blue and print it on cardstock. Then, using a Hero Arts stencil (details below), distress inks (picked raspberry, mustard seed, spiced marmalade, peacock feathers and wilted violet) and ink daubers, I randomly inked up the stars around the sentiment. It seems kind of festive, to me – don’t you think? I was at a loss what to do next. Then, I remembered this month’s challenge and die cut the panel into a large circle. Using a larger circle die, I cut the purple mat and the circle card – just be sure to remember to “overlap” one edge of the circle, beyond the fold of the card or you’ll end up with two circles, instead of a circle card – don’t ask me how I know this!

Love by Lia Hero Arts Stamp Set

You Make my Heart Smile with Hero Arts. This is the sentiment that I selected to create my card. It is part of the stamp set Love by Lia and I used a non traditional form in my creations. Welcome to another “Take Shape” inspiration sample.

Love by Lia Hero Arts Stamp Set

Hello crafty friends, Martha Lucia here with you to share a card with banner or tail fish shape. I really love to receive cards with different shapes and this is sample that you can use and put easily in an envelope because it is a regular size. To cut this I used a double stitched banner from Peek a Boo Designs and I kept my card stock folded on top and below the die border to give my card form.

Then I cut a stitched rectangle on whisper white card stock and stamped over the right side one of the sentiments that came included on the stamp set Love by Lia. I love this set because the sentiments and fonts that are included on it are a great size and very useful. I pasted the stitched rectangle directly over the top of the banner.

Love by Lia Hero Arts Stamp Set

To complete the card, I stamped four little envelopes over decorated paper and fussy cut them with my scissors to paste over the card using dimensionals and snail adhesive. The final touch, two loops of red and white bakers twine.

All the images from the stamp set Love by Lia were stamped with Hero Arts Intensive Black Ink.

What do you think?  Please let know below.

I can’t wait to see how you interpret our challenge theme this month.

Starry Birthday with Hero Arts

Aloha and happy Thursday friends!  Continuing with this month’s theme…Take Shape… I decided to get out my Lawn Fawn Puffy Star Stackables die to make a star shaped birthday card!  I love the scripty font in Hero Arts Birthday Messages .

I started by taking some white cardstock and folding it to create my star shaped card…

HAA2ZStarShaped

Then I die cut another star to stamp on and adhere to the front panel…

Birthday Star with Hero Arts

The sentiment was gold heat embossed using Hero Arts Gold Embossing powder and I used the Hero Arts Neon Ombre in Neon Chartreuse to Blue for a festive and summery look on the edges to say “enjoy your day!”  I kept it simple, but may add some bling or sequins, depending on the recipient.

Mahalo for stopping by!

Hero Arts Purring Kitty E6217 card

Hi! It’s Sue. It’s sunny here in Vancouver and it’s getting more difficult to stay inside to craft. I guess I need to find things that I could do outside. I love cats. So when, Hero Arts came out with some cat stamps, I knew that I just had to have them. Today’s card, uses a Hero Arts wood stamp, E6217, Purring Kitty.

Here’s my card

Isn’t the kitty the cutest? I stamped the kitty and coloured it with Copics. I was a bit stuck with what to do next. I created the background adding distress inks with ink blending tools, incorporating pale blues, grey and purple. It created the added interest I was looking for (so much better, in my opinion) than a plain white background. I found a complementary scrap piece of cardstock for the horizontal piece. I decided to add a die cut label to mat the kitty panel and popped it up with dimensionals. I decided to leave the card without a sentiment, so that I could use it for one of my cat friends – maybe as a hello, or get well or happy birthday.

My card is pretty much the opposite of the current challenge here at a2z Scrapbooking where the challenge is

We’d love for you to join us at our challenge. There are a few days left. Please remember that you need to use a Hero Arts product as your focus. If you’re looking for a place for Hero Arts products, check out the a2z Scrapbooking etsy store. When your cart reaches $25, use my code sue15 for 15% off your purchase.

Supplies

Hero Arts E6217 Purring Kitty
