Add a Little Dazzle and Dimension

Have a Happy Holiday and great New Year!  Tis the Season and I’ve been in the holiday mood since Thanksgiving.   And NOW, add a Little Dazzle and Dimension.

The three dimensions are height and width and depth. Depth is often applied by projecting a shadow.  In this case, I added layers to add the depth or dimension to this card.

Merry Cactus to You

A VERY Merry Cactus to You.  I found some new paper and had to put it to use.  Looks like a sparkly rug and feels like one too.  I hope that’s descriptive enough, because that really is what it looks and feels like.  I stamped several of the wonderful cacti in the new Hero Arts set.   This is the first time I’ve stamped this particular cactus though.  The matching die is for the top of the cactus only, but that really is all you need.  The pot is pretty easy to cut free-hand.  There are so many dies in the matching die set, that I might have missed this particular pot.  I would not have liked to cut out the cactus top on this one.   Gads, I LOVE this stamp set and am so glad I purchased the matched dies.    I thought the card should have a matching tag and VOILA, Happy Days, easy to do.

It’s Not a One Purpose Stamp

Arlene here with a sampling of three cards.

I know this is a “Winter” stamp, but I’ve never seen it as a totally WINTER stamp.  I’ve always seen the bits of snow drifting down as stars seen through the barren trees, either in the early dawn when you can see the sky lightening up on the horizon or late at night when the forest seems to turn dark and haunting.  I still can see the stars ahead of me guiding me out of the wilderness.  Yes, that does seem strange to say about a stamp, but I have always been intrigued by what colors to use with this stamp.  I believe last year, I used those wonderful neon Hero Arts inks and the skies are gorgeous with those inks, but I wanted to use the new Ombre inks by Hero Arts.   AND I had to use Stickles on every card.  They are my stars twinkling in the sky.

My first two cards are indeed, Fall cards for the Northern Hemisphere.  I loved the Light Ruby to Royal Red of the sky.  It puts me in the Autumn mood.

a2z HA WinterFall Red Ombre Nov 2015

This second card shows a sky from butter to orange by using the Ombre ink Butter to Orange.  Of course that bit of blue was NOT supposed to be there, so I caution you to thoroughly clean your stamp or you too will experience totally unexpected outcomes.  However, I do like what happened and so I am showing you my OOPSS card too.

a2z Autumn Winter Nov 2015

Finally, I’m going to show you the scene and sentiment in that gorgeous Ombre ink of Pool to Navy and yes, I did make this one a Holiday card to show you the versatility of this wonderful stamp.  It seems to make the world a gorgeous place.  And yes, I did still have some butter to orange ink at the top of the trees.  I didn’t take my own advice. a2z HA WinteBlue Nov 2015

Supplies: Winter Tree Scene Ombre inks of Light Ruby to Royal Red, Butter to Orange and Pool to Navy and a Hero Arts stamp from a cards set, not in production. The “Live Thankfully” sentiment is on a Hero Arts clear set, Hello Flowers available at a2z Scrapbooking.  You can visit me at A Bit of This and That

Art Journal Page: Be merry

Hi everyone!

I made art journal pages for you today. Hope your like this.  A little Christmas spirit in my art journal.

November14TaruJehkonen15

I took step by step photos on my work. Enjoy!

I made this page for my pretty small art journal book.  The open pages measures 11¨ x 3,5¨.

November14TaruJehkonen

First I adhere pages from an old book onto the art journal with soft gel.

November14TaruJehkonen2

When page is dried then I cut off all the extra bits.

November14TaruJehkonen3

I put a couple layers acrylic paint with palette knife.  Let first layer dried before adding the second.

November14TaruJehkonen4

November14TaruJehkonen5

Then I add more texture with stencil and paint.

November14TaruJehkonen6

When the paint had dried, then I took a lovely snowflake stamp and stamped on pages.

November14TaruJehkonen7

I stamped some splashes and dots with VersaMark. Then I heat embossed with fine white embossing powder!

November14TaruJehkonen8

I found one pieced of red tone paper which I made with Gelli Plate. I stamped a few penguins on that paper. After that I cut the penguins with cutting die.

November14TaruJehkonen9

I put a lot of snow on page. Snow-tex is just perfect for this. It made very rich and nice texture.

November14TaruJehkonen10

I glued a couple penguins with 3D stickerts and onto the page.

November14TaruJehkonen11

November14TaruJehkonen12

I wanted some text on the page. So I starting planning…

First I stamped on same red tone paper. Cut shape on edge and start doodling on that.

November14TaruJehkonen13

Then I thought  I need some pillar for my sign. So I cut some and doodled on that.

November14TaruJehkonen14

Now I glued all the rest onto the page.  It is ready!

Happy Thanksgiving to You

We’ll all be celebrating Thanksgiving Day this month in the United States.  Our family might risk the addition of a ham to the feast, but that was just once, not that it wasn’t good, but we all love our turkey.  It’s a big Turkey meal with mashed potatoes and gravy plus some veggies and of course crescent rolls, which are not to be confused with French croissants. My boys do not like cranberries, most pies, cakes, stuffing or croissants – ME, I LOVE IT ALL.  I don’t know what I did wrong, but there you have it.  I’ll be enjoying a good Thanksgiving and hope you do too.

I made several cards and I hope you enjoy them and how I put them together.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours this month.

FIRST ONE LAYER CARD

a2z HA Large Thankful Nov 2015

I used the same masking technique I used on the first card above to stamp the pumpkins and leaves.  The background from the green up is done in Distress inks, Fosslilzed Amber and then Mustard Seed and and Spiced Marmalade upper right.   The sentiment is stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa.

a2z Scrapbooking Hero Arts “Thankful for You

SECOND ONE LAYER CARD – See tutorial below.

A Thank you card for Thanksgiving and it’s all one layer.  I used the masking technique to build this card plus a Hero Arts Jar die.a2z HA Thankful for yuo Nov 2015

  •  Die Cut the jar
  • I did not use the Winter Scene stamp, as I didn’t have it at the time.  It would certainly have made this so much easier to just stamp the jar top.
  • Use the bottle top of the die to create the label.  Place the “THANK YOU”  or your choice of stamp to judge width & length of label.  Then die cut the bottom of the label.  I had to shave the sides on the label to fit the label inside the jar.
  • Use the die-cut label you just made to trace your label onto the jar.
  • The jar top is drawn by using the bottom of the die itself.  Die cut a piece of paper using the bottom of the die so you can use the shape to draw the jar top.   It really was perfect, however, you can see my drawing skills are not.
  • You now have the jar top and label drawn on the jar.
  • Choose your stamps to decorate the inside of the jar.  I chose the Hero Arts “Thankful for You”
  • To do a bit of masking, you have to think ahead and plan your design.  What do you want to see first?  Since there are matching dies with these, I just cut copy paper and started layering to see what I wanted to go where.  I also used the “THANK YOU” label I had cut first.
  • Here’s the order I stamped each item.  Stamp the leaf down the center first.
  • Tape your paper masks to avoid stamping over your previously stamped images.  I used Washi tape to hold down the masks.  Stamp the two pumpkins (I stamped the left first).  Stamp all the leaves wherever you think they should go.
  • If you want to stamp leaves over the “label”, make sure you mask around the “label”

Easy Tags and Easy Cards

I know I have to start early on my holiday tags and cards.  I give away 12 to 16 bags of cards for the holidays to staff I work with and friends I just want to show I care.  That’s a lot of cards, so I save almost everything I make to give away as gifts.  Now I have to make the cards and tags that go with the gifts.  I found a new Hero Arts set, Winter Scene, that makes my tags and cards fun.  I started with patterned papers to see how those turned out.  They were fun and I made about 15 so I have my tags all ready to go for my staff at work.

a2z Scrap Winter Scen mixed paper Oct 2015

You can see that you can even use the patterned paper as part of the design.  I also have the matching jar die, Hero Arts Frame Cuts.  You can see how these would be quick and easy. I used Hero Arts Shadow Ink Wet Cement for the pebbles and land on the tags.

WATCH OUT: CARDS BELOW!

Now for some cards.  Where I used black ink on my patterned paper for my elements, on the white paper, you can mix up your colors.  Just stamping the large jar in the set and placing your elements from the set inside creates a fun and easy card.  I used the Hero Arts Shadow Ink, soft sky, for the ground element as well as the snow.  I really like the way these turned out.

A bit of Fall for Us All

I couldn’t wait to use this Forest Stencil for a Fall card, maybe lots of cards.  I couldn’t stop after one.  I hope you like these as much as I do. There was a lot of sponging, but once into the rhythm, I was happily sponging  8 of these beauties.  I am only showing you four, but you can pop over to catch the others at my blog.   As you can see, you can move the stencil to give the card a different design as you sponge, but you can turn the stencil over and have a different design, but I do caution you to FIRST CLEAN the stencil if you’ve just used the other side.  I know you would clean it, but just saying!

I gave all of the 8 cards away and have to make a ton more for the holidays because my staff want these in their gift bags for the holidays.  I started a simple gifting with my staff and I’m afraid that it’s become a bit more than my staff now, it’s my past staff, retirees who promise to bring goodies back for me if I can possibly do more cards for them… and on.  So had to make more than 8 cards.  You’ll have to scroll all the way to the bottom.to see tops for cards.

A TIP:  I did tape the stencil on top of each card by using REMOVABLE tape all along the inside of the stencil.  All the places where it might lift up if you sponged a bit heavier or rougher will stay down.   I have a rough sponge pad that helps get the tape off the back in soapy water as removable tape on plastic still likes to stick.  I can see sooooooooo many uses for this stencil.  Every season of the year could use a stencil like this.

a2z Fall Pink to Lavender Scene Stencil Oct 2015

a2z Fall Yellow Scene Stencil Oct 2015

The card stock is cut from 12: X 12″ card stock I purchased from Michaels a couple months ago  NO SPONGING on the background, but lots of woodsy sponging of white.  I was so lucky to have found these backgrounds.  They look so natural and even a bit handmade.  I don’t think I’m that good.

I had to make 27 more tops to go on cards.  I sat one afternoon and sponged  the white unicorn ink onto as many pieces of cardstock as I had the patience to do.  It’s about that time when you don’t want to look at another card again.  But the results were well worth it.  I had so many compliments and requests for cards at Christmas that I needed to start on the rest now.  I totally LOVE this Hero Arts stencil and  Unicorn ink.

A lLittlle Snow Never Hurt Anyone

I could say “A little paste never hurt anyone”.  This is the only way I want to shovel my snow.  When I saw these houses, I just immediately thought of putting paste on for the snow.  Crazy, but one should always try something to see if it works.  It works for me.  A bit of embossing on the blue panel behind the houses adds some interest to the background.  Bling never hurt anyone either.  I added my “snow” with a toothpick to the houses, dab by dab.  I free-handed the snow around the houses.  It was something fun to try, so if you haven’t tried something, don’t let it hold you back.
