Hero Arts Christmas Mice and Binders

I was happy with my old system of keeping my dies in a long plastic container with most of my dies where I knew they should be until my system broke down, TOO MANY DIES.  Yes, I actually said that.  BUT I did NOT toss any dies. NO DIES WERE HARMED IN THIS PROCESS.   I JUST changed the way I kept them.

I figured I wanted something about 5 inches by 7 inches because most of the dies came in packages about that size, but not anything too much bigger.  And I found something at one of our local paper stores.  First I found the sleeves which are 8 1/2″ tall by 5 1/2″ wide.  After looking at several different binders that would accommodate that size sleeve,  I ended up with ten (10) binders in all.

  • TIP: Decide what you want in a binder
  • Binder Spine – Tab in a sleeve or use a label to tape onto the binder spine  (I went with the Tab in a sleeve)
  • Front of Binder – Sleeve with room for paper to identify what is in the binder or not sleeve, but you can tape some paper on top of the binder (I went with the sleeve on the front so I could easily change when I add or remove or change dies to another binder.)

I purchased a binder that was cheaper without a spine tab or sleeve on the front, but realized it wasn’t really what I wanted.   I will use the two binders for something else in the future, but went back and picked up 10 binders at about $1.50 more each and found they were also made better and would last longer.  That’s just my two cents, as they say.

I don’t have my Dies sorted by brand, but by type from Christmas and Holidays to Scenes and Letters & #s.  I have ten (10) binders in all.   If I change a die or dies to another binder, it’s easy to change the front cover because I can take it out and put a new typed sheet in the front sleeve.

Here are a couple of my stamp and die combination sets.  I keep the stamps and dies in one sleeve so they are together and easy to find.

Below are the new Christmas Mice dies on the back side of the stamp set . When I stamp and die-cut images, I put them into a small plastic bag that closes which goes into the same sleeve as the stamp and die set.

The new Holiday Greenery Edge Fancy Die has its own place of honor in my Christmas Binder with some die-cuts already to go..

I don’t have every die listed on the front unless there is room to do so.  I based binder names on the length of the name I could fit on the exposed binder side when stored and placed all brands in that binder.  I made a list of all dies in each binder and put those lists in sheet protectors with a metal ring to keep them together.  Anytime I’m not sure of what is in a binder, I pick up my lists.  Now that I’m thinking about it, I just may put that list into alphabetical order with the name of the book so I can just look something up alphabetically.  See, there’s always another way of doing things.

The card below published November 3rd is the result of using my binders to hold dies and die-cuts.

Hero Arts Christmas Mice Say Thank You

I know you’re wondering why I’m making a Thanks card with Christmas Mice.  Me TOO.   The background copper color reminds me of rich Thanksgiving decorations and I think it works.  Thos mice are so cute and take little time to color.  I am rather fond of that cheese which was definitely fun to color.  I cut off the tag on the bottom of the cheese with the “Merry Christmas” message.

I used a tree die and rectangular die with in the middle of the squares,, cut the border between the bottom set of squares and went on from there.  I had seen something similar with the mice, but cannot locate that card.  If I do, I will give her credit for her inspiration card.

Hero Arts In The Study

A2Z Scrapbooking has a challenge that makes everyone happy – it’s ANYTHING GOES.  I so enjoy the images of “In the Study and especially the chair.  With a title like Chapter 1, you could write a manuscript or just a pick-up note. Just as you can make a card without the matching dies, the matching dies are so marvelous to move around to create whatever scene you want.

Hero Arts Flowering Magnolia in Silver

This month the A2Z Scrapbooking challenge is “Birthday Bash”.  I was in the mood for flowers.  If I have to get something special out, I usually will do more than one project or card.  I have seen so many cards in silvers and white, that I couldn’t pass up trying this myself.  I’ll call this the “silver edition”.

I used a digital sentiment and stamped the panels with the Flowering Magnolia, (matching die is available) and I love being able to die cut these flowers too.

I stamped bot cards with VersaMark ink and then embossed the images with a very old Silver embossing powder (but it still works beautifully).  On the card below, I sponged distress inks, shabby shutters, twisted citron and ripe persimmon after embossing.  I dropped and spritzed water on the background and die cut the panels to adhere to a card.

Rather than create a background as in the first card, I chose a red ombre panel and stamped a background, embossed it in silver and added a digital “Happy Birthday” across the bottom.

For close-ups, I am at A Bit of This and That.

Sugartree Stamps Hug in a Mug and Coffee Loving Cardmakers

Hi! It’s Sue here today. It’s the start of Coffee Loving Cardmakers Spring/Summer Coffee Hop today. I made a card using a digital kit from Sugartree Stamps, which is exclusively available at a2z Scrapbooking etsy store. Here’s my card.

I copied the “iced coffee” stamp onto a word document twice. I sized them, so one would be larger than the other and flipped the larger one (so the straw would be on the right).  I printed them twice – once on regular printer paper and once on cardstock. I carefully fussy cut the printer paper one and then using patterned paper, cut the body of the cup and the coffee sleeve (which I’ve recently learned is called a zarf), using the printer paper outline as a template. I also fussy cut the cardstock iced coffee images. I adhered the printed paper to the coffee cups and added some color and shading with Copic markers. For the background, I used a mini stencil from Tim Holtz’s Mini Stencil set 3, which is a mini version of his Splatters stencil, and ground espresso distress ink, applied with an ink blending tool on a kraft card panel. The sentiment, from the same digital kit was printed onto natural cardstock, trimmed and adhered to the card panel. I adhered the large cup and popped up the small cup for a bit of dimension.

Sugartree Sentiment Happy Mother’s Day

Mix a bit of digi with coloring and this is one of the results.  I gave this card to my daughter-in-law for Mother’s Day.  A friend gave me the paper to color and I went for yellows and pinks.  Below the card is one of the panels in pink that I colored.  I didn’t think I would like the panels so well, but I love the gold outlines (which you can feel if you run your finger over the panel) and extremely smooth paper.

I usually print out digital sentiments in different sizes to see how they will fit on the card and either die cut the sentiment or make a banner with scissors like I did here.  A friend gave this to me to color.  She had cut three panels and I colored one in yellow and the other two in light pinks and dark pinks.  This is gorgeous in real life and all the panel needed was a beautiful sentiment.  Consider adding a sentiment to a complex background.

Sugartree Stamps KN002 Hug in a Mug Shaped Card

Hi! Sue here with a new card to show you today. Since the monthly challenge at a2z Scrapbooking is “Shape Shift”, I thought that I’d join in the fun and create a card that isn’t the typical rectangular shape.

Here’s my card

I printed out the “to go cup” stamp onto cardstock using my inkjet printer. I added color with Copic markers. Through trial and error, I have found that alcohol based markers do not make my printer ink bleed while water based markers do make my printer ink bleed. I fussy cut out the image. I then made a top-folding card and carefully traced the to go cup, making sure that there was a bit of overhang of the top of the cup. I carefully cut out the card base. When complete, I found that I had to do a bit of trimming so that the card base didn’t peek out from behind the to go cup. I couldn’t figure out where to put a sentiment, so my card is sentiment-less, at least on the outside.

Hero Arts Dragonfly Fancy – Be Happy Card

Hi! Nice to see you here. It’s Sue and I have a new card for you. I get mesmerized by dragonflies in nature. I love how they dart around and I love how they shimmer in the sunlight. I tried to capture some of the shimmer and sparkle of a dragonfly using sparkly teal cardstock for the outline and silver shimmer cardstock for the solid dragonfly background.

For the background of the card, I tried distress oxides for the first time. I understood that it was important to dry each layer completely before adding a new layer. It’s a unique property of the distress oxides. I started with glossy cardstock and distress oxides (salty ocean, broken china and faded jeans). Using an acrylic sheet, I smooshed each of the distress oxides and spritzed water. I dipped the glossy paper into the puddles of color. I then used my heat tool to dry the panel. I repeated the process a few times, until I was happy with the result. By drying each layer, the addition of new oxide ink and water, doesn’t re-activate the underlying layer, so you’re able to layer the colors. I felt that the background looked like the sky with some clouds.

I used dimensionals to pop the dragonfly up on the background. The sentiment is from Hero Arts Special Birthday Digital kit.

Hero Arts Words of Love Digital Kit – Another Valentine’s Card

Hi! It’s Sue here. Yes, yes – I know. Valentine’s Day was a couple of weeks ago. I just couldn’t resist making one more card. After all, I’ll be ahead of schedule for Valentine’s Day 2019 – well, as long as I can find the card! LOL!

Here’s my card

I used the “heart candy” digital stamp. I sized the two candies, changed the colour to gray from black and copied and pasted multiple times to create a sugar sweet background. I printed this with my inkjet printer and added colour with Copics. The sentiment is from the same digital kit and tried to match the colour of the print with one of the colours of the candies.

OK, going to put the Valentine’s things away until next year!

Hero Arts In The Study

I couldn’t wait to try out “In the Study” and make a card.  I had so much fun with all the stamps and dies.  I’m a book person and I couldn’t resist the clear stamp set.  I hope you like the set as I think it’s adorable.  I thought the patterned paper looked like wallpaper in a study, so I chose this from my stash.    I took the table lamp and put it behind the chair so it could be an overhead lamp.  I didn’t even mind the white trim showing from the die cuts.  I die cut “moments” in both black and white and layered the black onto white.

Please join our  challenge this month of Love with a project showing your love because IT’S A LOVE THING (use primarily red and/or pink on project)
