Hero Arts Birthday Bash U Fold

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I am inspired by this month’s challenge theme: Fun Folds, and tried a new fold myself.  This one is called the “U fold”.  Let’s take a look.

I think a picture is worth a thousand words.  Everything is pretty self explanatory.  But I do want to mention that my card base size is 7.5 inched in width and 4.25 inches high, after you fold the one side, the card becomes the same size as an A2 card.  The scores are done at 1 inch, 2 inch, 5.5 inch and 6.5 inch.  So the area left in the middle is 3.5 by 4.25 inches.

Two digi stamp sets were used for this card, I use the Artistic Circles for the background.  The sentiment and birthday cake are added on top of the background and printed all at once, then I colored the cake with markers.  The balloons are printed separately, colored, hand cut and glued to the sides.  The strings are hand drawn with a black glaze pen.  Here’s the beauty shot.

I hope I’ve inspired you to join in our Fun Folds Challenge this month.  Check the details below and play along!

Hero Arts One Of A Kind Wishes

Hello there,

Cindy here today to share a ‘fun fold’ card.  I created for you an easel card.  The Easter holiday is on the way and that where’s I drew my inspiration.

a2z_20190409_one_of_a_kind_wishes_1

I used the Hero Arts One Of A Kind digi stamp, I picked the Leaf Sprig in Black, resize and modified the color to light grey using my image editor.  Then I rotate, copy, and paste to create a wreath in a 4.25 and 5.5 white space.  Next I resized the One Of A Kind Bird 3 in black and placed it on top of the wreath.  Then I added the sentiment from the same set, printed and colored with pencils.  To add a bit of texture and shine, I used a black glaze pen and traced over the outline of the bird.  But it is not showing up in the photo.  😦

I trimmed down the panel slightly smaller and glue to a creamy yellow panel that is 4 by 5.5 inches in size.  I glued the panel to the folded card front of top fold card base.

a2z_20190409_one_of_a_kind_wishes_2

For the banner that is used to catch the flap, I resized the One Of A Kind Bird 2 and duplicated them in a row horizontally.  It is also colored in pencils and mounted in the same color card stock and it is glued on the bottom edge of the inside of the card base.

Have you played our April challenge yet?  Check the details below and join in, looking forward to see your creations in the challenge gallery!

Hero Arts Kitchen Silhouettes Welcome Home

Hello everyone,

I actually don’t have any scientific proof on this, but I truly believe the kitchen is the heart of a home.  So for my ‘Welcome Home’ card I chose to use the Kitchen Silhouettes Digi Kit.

To create this card, I printed the “background reverse” on white card stock multiple times and trimmed a 4 1/4 by 5 inch panel, then colored it with coloring pencils.  I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on a vellum band and wrapped it around the colored panel.  Adhered the colored panel to a hot pink card base.  From a separate non colored area, I hand cut the uncolored coffee pot and cup, stamped the heart and dots and attached to vellum band with foam adhesive.

This month’s challenge theme is to Color It In.   Have you play along yet?

Hero Arts Seventh Heaven Sun And Moon

Hello everyone,

I am sharing a couple projects  today featuring Hero Arts’ Seventh Heaven Digi Stamp.

For my first card, I was inspired by a wall hanging I saw in Mexico when I last traveled there.  It was a half sun and half moon together and I was really intrigued.  And this is what I came up with and it is quite similar to what I saw.

I love how this turned out btw!!  I used my image editor and resize both the sun and moon image, then I copy and paste the moon over the sun image.  First I outlined everything using color glaze pen expect the faces, this I used gold and silver gel pen to outline.  Next I filled in with Copic markers.  Lastly I added gold and silver dots in the triangle areas.  Here’s a couple close up.

To finished the card I trim the panel and adhere to black card panel and then use foam adhesive to a pink pattern paper which is glued to a 5 1/2 square card base.  To embellish I added a few star shape sequins.  I just love the colorful mosaic look on this card.

For my second card, I took a different approach with just two colors, gold and silver.

After I printed the same image, as on my first card, on white card stock, I darken the outlines with a black archival marker.  Then I painted with Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Gold and Pewter (Silver) watercolor ink.  While that dries, I gold heat embossed the sentiment and splattered the same ink on a black card base.  Then I carefully trimmed the sun moon image and adhere to the card front.

Do you spot something different in the sun ray between the two images (card 1 and card 2)?

Yes I doodled and extra line at the end of the curls and make it thicker on card 2.  It not only gives variation to the design, it was easier to hand cut too!   😀

This month’s challenge theme is to Color It In.   I hope I’ve inspired you to play along.  Scroll down to get the details.  🙂

Hero Arts Feathers Note

Hello there,

Cindy here today sharing a card created using Hero Art Feathers Digital Cut Files.

a2z_20190309_feather_note

I actually do not have an electronic cutting machine, but I still enjoyed using this Digital kit.  I used an image editor on my computer and arranged the Peacock feather image randomly and printed in light grey on white card stock.  Next I rendered the panel with coloring pencils and trimmed to 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inch card panel.  To darken the the background I use an inking tool and applied a light coat of Milled Lavender.

For the focal image, I printed one of the other feathers in light grey on white card stock three times and hand cut.  Then I heat embossed them with brass embossing powder.  I adhered them onto the colored panel, stamped the sentiment in black and embellished with a white ribbon.

I am quite happy how it turned out.

This month’s challenge theme is to Color It In.  Hope you’d join in the fun.  Scroll down to get the details.  🙂

Hero Arts National Parks Birthday

Howdy! I am here today with a birthday card! I love the National Parks and really enjoy using the National Parks Poetic Prints stamp set.

National Parks

For this card I used all 4 of the stamps in the set. Hero Arts donates a little to the National Parks for each set sold. I really wanted to color these in using colored pencils on the Neenah Desert Storm kraft paper. It is a lighter color of kraft. I colored all of the scenes using Prismacolor pencils. I went back over the stamping with a Copic Multiliner after I finished all the coloring. It doesn’t really show since it is so small, but I used a clear glaze pen on the car and trailer windows. I cut out each one using a die by Poppy Stamps.

Each of the park scenes have foam tape under them for some dimension.

The sentiment is cut with a die and the paper had the 2 sided adhesive on it which makes it much easier to stick it on to the card.

Getting into the Christmas spirit with Hero Arts

Hello!

Erica back on the blog today with a card to get into the Christmas spirit. I’m always stressing a little bit about my Christmas cards so I am trying to get ahead a little bit. Being European, we don’t do Thanksgiving so November is all about getting prepared and planning for Christmas. Not that I need an excuse to get crafty.

You might have noticed that I have used a lot of texture paste or embellishment mousse on my recent projects in the last month or so and I couldn’t help myself, I got it out again. Eh, what can I say? Once the texture paste beast has got you in its grips, it is hard to get away.

Before I added the texture paste, I made an ink smooched background using Distress Oxide in Twisted Citron and some Hero Arts Moss Hybrid ink

I also used one of the striped stamps from Hero Arts Happy Mail which I stamped along the side of the card panel. To keep with the colour scheme I used a Hero Arts dark green ink which came in one of the monthly kits, I think it was Hero Arts Thanksgiving Letter Layering ink cube set but don’t hold me to that.

To add some texture to the card, I got a stencil and some BoBunny Glitter paste (you could try Nuvo Golden Crystal Glimmer paste for a similar effect) and got to work. Instead of adding it all over the card, I kept it to one single line of leaves. Or well, I tried. I strayed a little and didn’t want to risk ruining the whole card by wiping it off so there are a few little rebellious bits there. Anyway, I thought it ended up looking a bit like a pine needles which is exactly what I wanted. Yay!

Untitled_Artwork 14

I found this really, really old HA Christmas tree stamp set (it’s so old it’s been retired but you could use Hero Arts Classic Christmas Tree and the coordinating frame cut ) and I stamped it up on Copic friendly paper and then got my markers out to colour it in. I used loads of different ones to give it a realistic look. I have a coordinating die for this but forgot where I put it so I used my scissors to fussy cut it out. I added the tree to the card using foam tape, it is my go-to adhesive. Then I stamped a ‘Merry Christmas’ sentiment on white card stock with VersaMark ink and I heat embossed it with Ranger Ink Gold Tinsel Embossing Powder before adhering it to the card too.

Untitled_Artwork 13

This card ended up very green and it’s not my favourite colour to be honest but it works very well with gold accents I think.

One Christmas card done, about 50 to go…

Happy crafting from

Peek-a-boo Hero Arts Purr Kitties card

Hi guys and hello August!

It’s Erica back on the blog today with another cat-i-licious card. I think it will be a safe bet to expect a few purrfect puns along the way, I ‘cat’ seem to help myself. The stamp set I’m talking about for todays card and post, is of course none other than the fur-tastic Hero Arts Purr.

For this card I wanted to make my own patterned paper and colour that with my Zig markers, which meant grabbing my Stathmore Bristol Vellum card stock and MFT hybrid ink in Black Licorice again. I selected the 🎶little balls of fur… sorry, yarn. Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory managed to hack into my account and add his little feline twist. Right, anyway, the little ball of yarn and the cute mouse got selected, mounted on small acrylic blocks and then it was just a case of going crazy like a kitty with catnip!

When all the images were stamped on the card stock, I got a green, yellow, blue, red and pink Zig marker out and proceeded to colour in the balls of yarn. Instead of going random here, I kept each line the same colour. The little mice got coloured in with a warm grey marker for the bodies and a slight pink for those big ears.

The kitties I had already coloured and ready to be cut out using the coordinating frame cut , from my first post which you can find here, and I selected a couple of them that looked like they were curious because which can’t isn’t curious?? Well, the idea was to cut out a hole in the panel, mount it on a card base and then pop the kitties inside the hole, like they are peeking out and can’t believe their luck to see so much yarn and mice. Sounds like a pawesome cat paradise, huh?

FullSizeRender 6

The card base I chose for this card is a mid dark grey card stock and I thought it would create a nice contrast for the kitties without washing them out (The one I have used here is from Simon Say Stamp but you can find a similar colour in this pack .) Black was too harsh and white was too bland. I like these different greys as they give a much softer look than black card stock. Plus I thought it tied in nicely with the yarn.. sorry, mice!

The peek-a-boo hole I cut out using a die-namic from MFT, called (unsurprisingly) Peek A Boo. Before I mounted the front panel to the card base, I covered the whole back of it with double sided foam tape. If you don’t have foam tape (excuse me while I go freak ooooooout! I am obsessed with foam tape!) you don’t need, I just like it to add a little bit of interest and dimension to a card without adding anything that shows if that makes sense?

To make sure the kitties showed the way I wanted them I added them to the front panel’s foam tape and once it was on the card, I added a little bit of adhesive behind them to make sure they didn’t run off.

This card doesn’t have a human language sentiment on it, just a feline one. I stamped up the ‘meow’ speech bubble and cut that out with the coordinating frame cut before adding it to the card with some more foam tape. (Hi, my name is Erica and I’m addicted to foam tape!)

As one last little flourish, I added some clear droplets from Studio Katia, in two different sizes. I thought they fitted better, being spheres, rather than sequins. The patterned paper is probably enough if you aren’t an ‘use all the embellishments’-kind of crafter. If you prefer gemstones you can find some clear ones here.

Here is the full card. I hope you will leave feeling inspired to make your own patterned paper or a card using these cutie kitties.

FullSizeRender 5

See you all soon and happy crafting!

Erica

Large Hydrangea Stamp Two Ways

Hi, friends, Chark here today. I am so in love with this Hero Arts Large Hydrangea Stamp…it’s fun to stamp and color and it’s a great size for filling a card. After I stamped it about a dozen times in different ways, on different papers and with different media, I put two cards together.

Both are stamped in Hero Arts White Unicorn Ink and then heat embossed with White Embossing Powder. One is on vellum and one is on red cardstock.

Here’s the red version. I used Prismacolor pencils to darken the centers with a plum color and then colored the tips of the flowers with an orange-red. I left the red cardstock in the center so it has three colors. Then I used a couple of greens on the leaves.

I added a strip of vellum with the sentiment (new Birthday Messages set) and rhinestones.

For this second card, I used the white ink and embossing powder on the vellum paper. Then I used Copics to color the blooms and stems. Don’t forget that Copics will color the white embossing and if you want the white lines to show, be careful! I have a few bits that are colored in the leaves, but enough of the veins are white. I finished with a torn red cardstock strip and red glitter enamel dots.

Which is your favorite? I think the flowers look cooler on the vellum, but I do think the red card is striking with the white embossing. Here’s the inside of the card—I’m trying to remember to pretty up the insides too—using Strawberry Ink.

If you want your own Hydrangea stamp from the new catalog, head to the store and pick one up…if your cart has more than $25 in it, you can use my friend code CHARK15 to get 15% off your whole cart!

Hope you’ll enter our monthly card challenge with your Hero Arts products to try to win the $25 gift code to the store.
