Nuvo Gilding Flakes and Hero Arts Wallpaper Cling Stamp

Hi, friends, Chark here today to show you what I’ve been playing around with—The Nuvo Gilding Flakes in Sunkissed Copper. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I love trying new art supplies, so I gave it a shot. It’s so fun! If you like your art shiny, these products are for you.

First, I painted white cardstock, a gessoed manila tag and some kraft paper with teal acrylic paint and Prima Art Alchemy Blue Gold acrylic paint. After that dried, I used a stay-sticky adhesive like the Nuvo glue pen to stamp with. I applied the glue to the stamp, stamped the image on each of the prepared papers and then let it dry while I immediately cleaned my stamp. When this glue dries, it becomes clear but stays tacky. Regular adhesive won’t work with these flakes.

For this tag, I did add a little blue with a metallic gelato on the corners and then I applied the copper flakes to the adhesive. I wasn’t going for a complete stamping, but more of a rough look. I left the brush marks and some white bits too. If you want a complete stamping, I’d use a MISTI so you can restamp the exact same spot with the adhesive multiple times.

For this flower, I applied the adhesive without stamping by applying the pen to the painted paper. It wasn’t until after it dried and the flakes were applied that I stamped the hydrangea. If you want more precise placement of the copper on certain flowers or leaves, apply the adhesive after stamping the flower and after coloring it with Prismacolor colored pencils.

For the final project, I didn’t paint the kraft completely with the acrylic paint and again stamped it incompletely. I die cut the panel with the Lawn Fawn small cross stitched frame. I added a daisy colored with pencils and a sentiment from the add-on for the Hero Arts July Card Kit.

Mini Dressed-Up Jar

Hi, friends, it’s Chark here again to share a little glass jar I found at the craft store and then fancied up a bit. I found these awesome tags made of copper metal at the Dollar Spot at Target and scooped them up. If your Target doesn’t carry them, you can use copper paper and cut it in a tag shape to mimic the effect.

il_570xN.603309508_km12I wanted to add some glam to the tag, so I heat embossed with my star stencil and glass bead embossing paste. It dries clear and sparkly and it has more texture than regular embossing paste, thanks to the glittery bits.

Here’s a close-up view of the embossing.

For the paper label, I mixed clear embossing paste with Copper Pearl Ex, which I love but don’t use often enough. Then I used an old gift card to smooth it through the star stencil and let it dry. As it dries, it becomes a lovely shimmery copper color. I just trimmed the paper and used roller adhesive to affix it to the jar. Now it’s ready to fill with a little candy or money. I think filling it with copper pennies would be fab. I also thought of filling it with sequins—wouldn’t that be fancy?!

Hope you’ll join in our August Challenge here for a chance to win $25 to the store! Break out your Hero Arts products (or get some new goodies at the store, including exclusive Hero Arts digital stamps) and think “texture.”
