Hero Arts Flutterbies Printable

Hero Arts Flutterbies Using Colored Pencils

Howdy! I hope you all are doing ok during this cold winter. It’s cold here in California for what I am used to. You have a good excuse to stay inside your warm crafty space and make some cards. I have a card today using digital images, colored pencils and a stencil. The colors (pinks, reds, grays) on the mood board for this months challenge caught my eye. So why not pink and red butterflies. Arlene and I were thinking about butterflies.

For the background I put a little Oxide Distress Ink down on a surface. I then took some embossing paste and mixed them together. I used a Hero Arts stencil for the pattern. I tried something a bit different for me and that is a random/partial background pattern. My brain wants to cover the entire background with a very even & symmetrical pattern.

For the butterflies I used the Hero Arts Flutterbies Printable Butterfly Digital Kit. You just print them, color them and cut them out. This kit comes with 3 sizes of butterflies and two different patterns on the wings. I learned a little trick with these. I first printed them out how they came. I wanted a couple smaller butterflies than they are originally. In my print dialog box I told it that I was printing on 4X6 paper so it shrinks to fit. I actually put in a 8 1/2 X 11 piece of Neenah cardstock and printed them. It worked great. I colored the butterflies with Prismacolor pencils. I went over a couple little spots on each butterfly with a Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen. Shimmer is the look I like a lot rather than glitter. When I glued down the butterflies I arched the wings a bit and only glued down the centers and outer wings to give a bit of dimension.

For the sentiment I die cut the words out twice using dark gray paper. The sentiment is actually attached in one long line but I cut it apart to fit my card. I glued those together and attached them to the card.

Hero Arts Black Butterfly

It’s my day to share with you again… some more stenciled inspiration.    Our challenge this month is to use a stencil on your project.

The other day I saw a video by Ingrid Blackburn where she used embossing paste with a stencil, shook on some Colourbursts/Brusho’s and spritzed with water.  I have something called Pixie Powder which is similar to these with lots of mica powder in them.   I thought I’d give it a go.

It has produced such a pretty pale pastel background as I went lightly with the powders.  Did get a bit of seepage but it adds to the whole look.    I have used Hero Arts Swirl Stencil (currently out of stock but you can do a special order – check out the store HERE)

Once my panel had dried, I die cut it with a rectangle die from DieNamics (MFT) and layered onto black then onto a white base.  I die cut the Hero Arts Butterfly Fancy Die from black card.  The sentiment is from THIS Hero Arts stamp and die set.  (currently on sale in the A2Z store!)

OK; now that we have the details out-of-the-way, let’s get down to creating. I stamped and die cut SO MANY IMAGES for these tags, thankfully I have some extras left over that are going to end up on another large project I am doing. 😉

Prepare for photo overload – you’ve been warned.

If you follow me on Instagram (Whimsical_Creations) you can see all the pieces I created as well as the Nuvo Mousse in action. 😀 So I stamped a ton of images and embossed with Hero Arts white (another fave) and colored with Zig Clean Clear brushes. I then die cut all my images as well as a base tag from water color paper.

I applied embossing paste through a stencil to parts of the tags and once dry smooshed on some distress ink. For one tag, I added some Nuvo Mousse to the distress ink and it really changed it to a teal color – lots of sparkle – but once it was dry, I added more of the distress ink without the mousse. Once completely dry, I adhered the various images, embossed some sentiments on black paper, sprayed with shimmer mist and adhered with dimensionals. I die cut a blank tag and adhered to the back for a clean place to write your message. I finished it off with some misc. ribbon and twine from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by; hope you’ll take the time to join our challenge and while you’re at it, shop our Etsy store for some holiday cheer for yourself!

Hero Arts Acetate Cards

Hero Arts Acetate Cards – Make a Wish!

Hero Arts Acetate Cards

Hi Friends!! Kristina here having some fun with Hero Arts Acetate Cards!
There are so many things you can do with them, but I thought it would be fun to use some
translucent embossing paste for a slight hint of dimension while retaining the clear card.

I used the Hero Arts Bold Floral stencil and applied the embossing paste over the entire card front.
While that was drying I die cut a little fishtail flag and did some stamping.

First I stamped the cake from the Make A Wish Birthday stamp set and covered it with masking fluid.
Next I used the Hero Arts Confetti background stamp, followed by stamping the sentiment over top.
After removing the making fluid I colored and decorated my cake and covered it with
glossy accents for some more clear pop!

Here’s a close up!

Get Well Soon

Hello Crafters!

Happy Monday! Nothing like a glittery flower card to kick off the week right? Added bonus it fits in with our current challenge: Embossing!

When I sat down to make my card I was rifling through stamp sets I love but haven’t seen nearly enough ink. I really wanted to use the large outline flower from Hello Flowers but the outline is so bold. I was looking for something a little softer. After looking some more I decide maybe I could make it fit what I wanted. Turns out, I could 🙂

I used  second generation stamping in Pale Tomato. I outlined the image with a Copic Multiliner and colored it with copics. I added a few detail lines and some dots for fun. I fussy cut the flower out. The leaf image in the set is a solid stamp and I wasn’t really feeling that. I have a love/hate relationship with solid images 🙂 I decided to use the swirl stencil  as faux leaves in the background. I smooshed some Lime Green ink onto my craft mat to color my embossing paste.  I was pretty generous with the amount I applied to my stencil. Before it was dry I sprinkled on some crystal glitter.

The card felt a bit empty so I used a black circle to bring it together. I trimmed the circle out from behind the flower because I just didn’t like the way it looked. The sentiment was stamped on some white and popped up with dimensional adhesive. I decided to add a few gold sequins as an accent.

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Don’t forget to get in your entry in for our embossing challenge!

Rainbow Watercoloured Embossing

Hi crafters

Dawn here to show you a card using a stencil, Texture Paste, watercolour Zig Brush markers and a die cut.

Rainbow embossed background

I used the Leaf and Flourish stencil with Ranger Texture Paste .  Once it dried I coloured with the Zig Markers and totally spritzed with water to mix.  I left it overnight before trimming it and backing with the black card.  I die cut a tag from black and white embossed the sentiment and heart from the Hello Stamp and Die. I used a Copic marker to colour the heart.  I coloured a scrap of watercolour paper and die cut the Hello.

My card was inspired by the Craftsy class I took.  It is a class by Catherine Pooler and I can highly recommend it.  21 different techniques.  One lesson is on Stenciling with Creative Mediums.

Is it a Tag or a Card?

I made tags with some texture, yes embossing paste. When I think of Fall or Autumn, I think of seeing the moon through trees on a hill, the view from my front yard looking up the hill.  Those skies of dusky orange and pink are made for Autumn tags or cards.  The tags were gorgeous. I could have punched a hole and pulled some twine through and had some unusual and marvelous tags.

When I made these tags, I thought I was finished, but…a2z Pasted Tags Aug 2015

I wondered if I might make Tag Cards.  So I did!  I chose some wonderful slate blue card stock on which to pop the tags.  A long sentiment finishes it off.  I think my friend is going to love these as part of a retirement gift for him and his already retired wife. These were simple tags and simple cards, but you don’t have to complicate things to make a beautiful card.a2z Tag cards Aug 2015

You can see the story that goes with the cards at A Bit of This and That.

Hope you’ll join in our August Challenge and make a shaker card with your Hero Arts stamps, dies and stencils. And, if you need some new supplies, don’t forget to shop at a2z Scrapbooking.

Gold Embossing

Hi Everyone,

this is Cornelia here today using embossing paste and one of my favorite Hero Arts dies – the Palm die. You probably know that this month A2Z Scrapbooking challenge is all about using embossing paste and perhaps you want to play along! I am also keeping it clean and simple with my card:

A2z 8-2015 b

I used the Hero Arts Triangle stencil (SA059) with Wendi Vecchi Gold embossing paste. Let it dry. Added the palm leaves die cut in heavy duty vellum and a little leftover snippet from a prior card in gold. The sentiment is from the Hello Sunshine set (Cl776), heat embossed in white and mounted with foam tape.

I’d Never Forget You

Hi everyone,

Barb here again with a card I created using a Hero Arts stencil and embossing paste;

a2z - FEBRUARY 3

I started by spreading embossing paste through the Two Way Arrows stencil on to a white panel, and let it dry. I stamped the elephant and sentiment with Versamark and sprinkled them with white embossing powder. Then, I shaded the elephant’s ear with tide pool shadow ink to add definition, and added glossy accents to the red hearts. Lastly, I placed silver thread behind the elephant and popped the sentiment up with foam tape.

We would love for you to play along in  This Month’s Challenge for the theme: “Emboss”! You may enter up to five times to be eligible to win a $25,00 Gift Certificate to the a2z Scrapbooking Store with each entry.
