Leave It To Me

Good Morning, it’s Chark with the post today and the colors of the leaves here in Ohio are becoming lovely shades of red, orange and yellow. They inspired me to create some Thanksgiving or Harvest gift bags. I found some mini burlap bags at the Dollar Spot at Target and thought they would make great gift-giving bags for teachers or favors for family dinners. So I broke out the acrylic paints and my new Arrow Pattern stencil. Here are the easy steps if you want to make your own burlap gift bags.

IMG_33221. Insert paper into the bag to keep the paint from leaking through.

IMG_33252. Tape down the stencil with washi tape and make sure the bag is secured to the table too.

IMG_33293. Use a fat brush to push the paint into the stencil (don’t use brushstrokes) by pouncing the brush up and down. And use an older brush in case the burlap is rough on the bristles.

IMG_33344. Let dry.

5. Then stamp on the bag (and over the dry paint) with Staz-On black ink. Use markers to color in the leaves. I used Autumn Leaves stamps to make the tags. I secured the Felt Leaves and ‘Happy Autumn’ cardstock with glue dots.

And, just so you know, the felt leaves are just $1.50 and come in a pack of twelve for your crafting needs. And the Autumn Leaves stamp set is just $8.00 right now, so you gotta pick these up asap! No, seriously, right now! Thanksgiving is coming! 🙂

IMG_3367I filled mine with clear plastic bags of mini candy bars. You can use these at a place setting or on a favor tray at your fall gathering.

These were so fun to make! I liked how they looked when I didn’t use too much paint and just picked certain areas of the stencil to fill in.

Hope this inspires you to make something fun and then enter it into our October Challenge–just use two Hero Arts stamps, two Hero Arts stencils or one of each on your project like I did.

And if you wanna be a part of the Design Team, you have three more days to try out for the team. Check out the details here!

Happy Friday!!

Hope your Day is a Hoot!

Hi there! It’s Kathy here again stopping in to show you this quirky card I made for the monthly challenge. The challenge is to use two Hero Arts products. This Curious Owl is one of my favorite stamps. I love owl stamps! And you already know how much I love pumpkins for Fall cards.

I wanted to use a lot of patterned paper with Halloween colors for this card. I think I accomplished my goal! 🙂  I also wanted to make it a fun card so I cut out the witch’s hat from another Hero Arts set and added to the Hero Arts Curious Owl stamp. I love how his eyes are looking up at the witch’s hat.

After I stamped, colored and cut out the owl, I adhered the witch’s hat to him. I then used a border punch to cut out the fence, a die to cut the balloon and I also cut several different pieces of patterned paper. I also stamped, colored and cut out the pumpkin. This Hero Arts Thankful for You set is a must have! I used Copic markers to color the orange on the owl and the pumpkin. I then stamped the greeting on the balloon.

Once I had all my pieces, I assembled the card. I also add some white twine to the balloon and colored the owl’s eyes with a white gel pen.

I hope you’ll play along with the challenge. You can find more information about it by clicking on the link in the right side bar. And don’t forget, if you’d like to order anything from the store, use the coupon code Kathy15 to receive a 15% off discount.

Thanksgiving Blessings

Hi there! It’s Kathy here. I hope you’re week is going well!  Today I’m sharing a card that I have created using one of the new Hero Arts Thanksgiving/Fall stamp sets. I love pumpkins. Any time I see them, it puts me in an autumn mood. How about you?

Ok, on to the card. I stamped an older Hero Arts cloud background stamp with Pumpkin Pie mid-tone ink on kraft paper. You can also use a stencil for this. Then I used the greeting from the new Thankful for You set and stamped it over the clouds (also using the Pumpkin Pie mid-tone ink). It’s very subtle. The Hero Arts mid-tone inks are some of my very favorite inks. I then stamped the pumpkins and used distressed inks with an ink blending tool to add different colors and shading to them. I also used a distress marker to color in the patterned lines on the pumpkins and then used the Wink of Stella glitter brush pen to add a bit of shine.  After the pumpkins were done, I cut the grass using a Fiskars border punch and then I adhered the card together. I then stamped the “Thanksgiving Blessings” greeting on patterned paper and cut it into a banner shape. I added the banner to the card with foam squares, along with a few gems, and voila, it’s finished!

Thanksgvg

Please Use Your Napkin

Hey it’s Chark again with a post about being polite and using your napkin…well, okay, it’s really about making your own fall napkin rings. I’m not hosting Thanksgiving this year, but when we do, I like to dress up the table without spending lots of cash. These napkin rings are made from paper towel tubes (you can get about four from one tube) and scraps of paper and ribbon I had. First up are my blingy napkin rings. I used black and ivory paper, black grosgrain ribbon and some thin gold string I had. I kept it from some packaging for another product. Do you do that too? Say, “oh, pretty,” and rescue it?

I looovvvee these Fall Felt Flowers from Hero Arts. They are on sale in the store right now and they are just the perfect touch. You get a variety of colors and shapes in each package, so they’re versatile.

I made another version in more typical fall colors with natural-colored string and matte silver brads I received in a card kit. I bet you have a million brads you haven’t used yet—just like me. These felt leaves are great for that because they have a little hole for tying or attaching a brad. You can trim it off too, if you don’t need it.

Here’s a last close-up of the leaves. And if you’re interested in getting your own felt leaves for place cards, napkin rings or making the perfect fall card (maybe a wreath of leaves?) head on over to store, while they are on sale for $1.50 for a pack of 12! Oh, and try some Stickles on the leaves if you’re looking for sparkle!
