Birthday Bash with Guest Mary Polanco

Hi, friends, it’s Chark here today to introduce our Guest Designer for the month of December, Mary Polanco. I first found Mary’s work on YouTube where she does great videos that are well-paced, inspiring and full of beautiful projects. When I asked if she’d be our December Guest Designer, she agreed and went above and beyond our expectations with her projects using our digital-of-the-month, Birthday Bash. There’s even a video for you to watch! Here’s Mary with her instructions…enjoy!

Hi there!  I’m so excited to be guest posting today using the Birthday Bash Digital Stamp set!  For my first project, I wanted to go big and go bright.  So I decided to print out the cake image pretty large.  This is an A2 size card so you can see the scale here, it’s pretty big.  I love this cake image because it’s simple and so easy to work with.  I chose the sentiment “Celebrate” because I’m going for a very cheerful and upbeat card.

I cut out the cake and sentiment and left a small white border.  I pulled out my “Color It” Gel pens and used the glitter ones that matched the background I was using.
Speaking of all things bright and cheery, let’s talk about the background! I had a blast working with these Distress Oxides.  First I sponged on the three colors you see here, Peacock Feathers, Wilted Violet, and Picked Raspberry.  After I sponged it on, I sprayed that bad boy down with water from my Ranger Mister and let the water do all the work.  I moved along the drying process with my heat tool and once it was good and dry, I covered it with Versamark Ink and then used some clear glitter embossing powder to get that shimmery look.

I put the card together with some fun foam under the colored background and some 3M foam mounting tape under the cake image for some added dimension.  But I laid the sentiment flat and used Multi Medium Matte from Ranger for a strong hold! I finished off the card with some Confetti Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh for some added fun!
I really wanted to use these balloons and the vintage look of them inspired me to go with a little bit more of an artsy kind of look.

I started with my background, using some Canson XL watercolor paper.  I used Distress Oxide in Iced Spruce, Seedless Preserves, and Worn Lipstick, and sponged it on first.  Then I watered it down with my Ranger Mister to fully mix the colors.  I heat set it with my heat tool and then finished it off with some of this fantastic black Smooth Spritz.  I love the look of the black shimmery paint splatters on top of these colors.

I printed the balloon images and the “Hooray” on some Neenah Solar Crest 80lb weight cardstock and cut them out leaving a small white border.  I sponged the balloons with some Iced Spruce Oxide, and the sentiment with Worn Lipstick.

I put the card together using fun foam under the colored background and foam tape under the balloon and sentiment.  Finally, I finished the balloons with some Glossy Accents and Confetti Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

I hope you enjoyed this project as I had so much fun working with these digital images.  Until next time, Happy Crafting everyone!

Believe in Yourself from Guest Designer Lynnea Hollendonner

Hi, friends, Chark here to introduce our fabulous guest designer, Lynnea Hollendonner. Thanks for joining in this month’s challenge and sharing your time and talent with us, Lynnea! See more of her amazing work on her blog, Sparkliie Creations, and on Instagram at Sparkliie.

Take it away, Lynnea!

Hi! I’m Lynnea and I am a wife, mom, and happy cardmaker! I love watercolor techniques and anything shiny and glittery!…and gold! Who doesn’t love gold? I have been cardmaking since I was 13 years old! It is still my go-to way to relax at the end of the day. I have a degree in forensic biology and a minor in chemistry. My husband and I adopted our little boy at the end of July! It was the longest 2 year journey of my life! I frequently craft with him. He loves to put ink and paint on his fingers and make a creation of his own! My style is very clean and simple with a bit of pizzazz!

Narwhal
I’m so excited to bring you one of my card creations for this month’s bright and beautiful challenge! I used the Believe in Yourself Narwhal stamp set and Distress Inks to make my card. Rainbows are all the rage right now and I have recently jumped on the bandwagon! I usually like single colors or ombre, but I’m starting to see why everyone loves rainbows! I grabbed a rainbow of colors – Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber, Crushed Olive, Mermaid Lagoon, and Dusty Concord. I used the ink smooshing technique to create the background. I smooshed some ink onto a piece of acetate and added a spritz of water. Then I just smooshed the acetate onto a piece of watercolor cardstock. I dried each color as I went so there wouldn’t be excessive mixing. As I lifted the acetate off the paper some of the ink spattered around the card. At first I thought I ruined it, but I quite like the effect!

Narwhal 2

I stamped the Narwhal and coordinating images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Copic markers. The grays I used are N0, N2, N4, and N6. I used BV2 and BV4 for the tusk and B00 for the water. The pinks on the unicorn mane and tail are R81 and R83. I covered the images with some Wink of Stella clear glitter pen and Glossy Accents. All of the moisture from these products smeared the black ink and gave everything a gray tone, but I still like it! I used some white embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment and trimmed the panel down to 4 1/8 by 5 1/2 and added a slim piece of gold glitter cardstock to the side. BOOM! All done! Thank you for joining me!

Guest Designer Gwendolyn Goh

Hi, friends, it’s Chark here today to introduce our July Guest Designer, Gwendolyn Goh and if you know her, you know she’s crazy talented. Thank you so much, Gwendolyn, for sharing this beautiful project with us today…take it away!

Hi everyone! I’m Gwendolyn aka desperatehousewifecraft and I am so honoured to be a guest designer here today!
I entered the crafting world 4 years ago, when I started a scrapbook a month before I left France, for my best friend there, to leave her a memory of our 20 year friendship. I remember going to a scrapbook class as I didn’t know what it meant and what I had to do! Lol! She got the scrapbook.. 2 years later… and that was the last I touched a scrapbook! I tried crochet, soy candle making, and then 1 year ago, I don’t really know why, I started card making. And I have been obsessed with it ever since! I love learning new techniques and being challenged by challenges. My style is mainly clean and simple and playing with watercolours, which I learnt to use a few months ago.
thinking of you a2z guest design
Today I made a special watercolour card to share with you so I hope you like it! I used Hero Arts Color layering flamingo and  Color layering poppy to make the “water lilies” which I stamped with Altenew’s Shades of purple mini cube set. For the background, I used my Zigs Clean Color real water brush pens and a water brush to create it. I love how they leave an almost fluorescent look! The sentiment comes from the layering flamingo set and was stamped in Versafine ink.
Well I hope you enjoyed my card and if you want to know more about how I made it, please pop over to my blog!
