A Hero Arts Retailer

You’re a HOOT

Hello Friends!! Welcome to the blog, It’s Chitra (from My Craft Corner) here with a new post for you all. So excited to write my very first post for the blog. The current challenge theme for this month is “Encouragement”, so I made a card which goes with the theme..

For my card background I first masked the circle where I wanted my image to be and then placed my HA’s “Tweed” stencil and added the colors with distress inks and sponge daubers. When I was happy with the colors I then stamped the dots on top of the stencil to give some interest. Then I removed the stencil to reveal the magic (you know how it feels 😉 ). The image is from HA’s “Lil Hoot” which is stamped inside the circle with Memento Tuxedo Ink and I colored with copics.

Hoot 1

I have used two different (parts of) sentiment to make my own sentiment, that’s the joy of clear stamps…. right.? Also I have scored the outline of my circle just to define it.

Hope you enjoyed todays card. If you are interested in any of the products I used on my card or any other amazing products from the store, please feel free to use my DT Promo Code: CHITRA15 and you will receive a 15% OFF(Excluding Shipping).

Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to play with our current challenge!! Have a happy weekend!!

Stars & Stripes and Happy Flag Day!

Hi – It’s Lisa (ThePurplePlace), here today and I would like to start off by wishing all our U.S. friends and very Happy Flag Day!  Flag Day is always celebrated on June 14th, and was established to commemorate the anniversary of the day that United States adopted our “Flag”, back in 1777.   It also happens to tie in perfectly with our theme for this month, which is “Stars and Stripes” another name we use at times, to refer to our Flag.

Today, I have a few new cards to share, all of which I hope will inspire YOU to create something fun for our June Linky Party and to also help inspire you to donate some of your creative talent, by making some cards to send to “Operation Write Home”,the fabulous group were are focusing on this month.

I’m very honored and proud to be on the many “OWH Cardmakers” groups over the past 4-5 years now.  I hope you all will consider sharing your talents and also create some card for this amazing cause.  For more details, please see Elizabeth’s Post HERE or visit the OWH site directly and check out the fabulous videos that Sandy Allnock, the Executive Director, has created to assist you in getting started.

My first card was one that was created with our theme in mind, and was also inspired by today being Flag Day.  My ideas of using both Stars and Stripes and the colors of our flag was my focus when I started this card by creating my very own “Stars & Stripes” using the wonderful “Stars Background Stamp”, which I stamped onto some white cardstock, and then heat-embossed with Hero’s White Embossing Powder.

Once it cooled a bit, I took my Ranger Distress Paints and colored one section in blue (Chipped Sapphire), left one section white, and then colored the last in Red (Festive Berries) and then quickly spritzed it with water, so it would blend a bit.  I then cut each section into small strips and used my new Hero Arts Star Die set to cut out the starts.   I added those to my card front and picked my Sentiment from one of the Hero Arts/Operation Write Home Stamp Sets, this one is called “Year Round Sentiments” and had the perfect sentiment for this card.

And for my next card stayed with the Red, White and Blue color combo, but created a different look, using one of my new favorite wooden stamps from Hero Arts – Big Star, which I stamped in Royal Red Shadow Ink and then die cut with the matching Die Set.  I created my background with some random scraps and embossed the bottom red section in a tiny star pattern.   The sentiment was also stamped in the same Shadow Ink and is from another of the newest Hero clear stamp sets – “Written in the Stars”.

Be the Star

That brings me to my last card today, where I wanted to show how you can use the Stars and Stamps theme in a totally different way and also in using any colors you love, in my case, that would be “Purple” of course, and another color I love which is “Teal” or aqua.   I used the same “Big Star” stamp, but instead of inking it up on one color, I used some water based markers to color the stamp directly, and then lighted misted it with water, just before I stamped it onto white cardstock.   I used my same dies to cut out the one start and then pulled out some “Purple” foil paper, along with some scraps of aqua/white stripped patterned paper and put them all together on a “Pool” card base to create this fun Birthday card.  The sentiment was stamped in Hero’s Grape Juice Shadow Ink and is from the same “Written in the Stars” clear stamp set.  I added a little bling and “ta da”, I was done!!

Birthday Sparkles

Before I sign off, I have one more little wish and it’s for all of the “Dads” who will be celebrating Father’s Day tomorrow.  Whether you are a Grand Dad, a brand new Daddy, or even a Dad to be, I hope you all have a very special day.  May it be filled with laughs, smiles, fun times and lots of love.  ….and, to my Dad, in Heaven, I LOVE you and still miss you every day!   XOXO

Special Guest Designer Sandy Allnock, Operation Write Home

Hello! My name is Sandy Allnock, and I’m excited to be sharing with you here at A2Z! A little bit about me….I’m an obsessive papercrafter, and I’ve been sharing a creation every day for over 5 years over on my blog. I live in Washington State with the sweetest Golden Retriever ever – her name is Ciara, and she helped me to found Operation Write Home in 2007! She’s our mascot for the organization, and the most patriotic pup you’ll ever meet!

If you don’t know about OWH yet, let me share a little! We’re working our way toward 3 MILLION handmade cards sent to our heroes – a pretty amazing feat, even though we’ve seen most of those cards come through personally. Crafters are so generous! If you’d like to join us, visit our Welcome page to get all the info you need as an OWH newbie.

Our biggest needs right now are these listed below – and I know A2Z is especially interested in helping generate lots of the first item:

  • AnyHero mail – these are cards and letters from folks across the USA. Our heroes truly appreciate the handwritten notes from people all over the nation; in these days when the media covers so little of what’s going on overseas with our military, they can feel forgotten. These letters can be in handmade cards, storebought cards, on postcards, or even index cards! Everyone can write a letter – including kids! Children can draw pictures, use coloring pages, whatever they want, as long as there’s no glitter involved and it fits in a gallon ziploc. Read more about kids mail here.
  • Year-round themed handmade cards – Most requested are Missing You, Love, and Thank you cards, and also Birthday cards. Please review our accepted themes list here and be sure to check our guidelines too.
  • Donations! Every charity needs support to keep its work going, and we appreciate every gift made to help our project! Donate here.

I hope you’ll consider joining us in some capacity! Everyone can find a place to fit in. We have folks who don’t make cards at all, but write lots of letters. Others do outreaches to their community, including cardsigning parties at businesses, schools, churches, and even county fairs! Companies and individuals do fundraisers of all sorts, and the creativity of the whole nation in finding ways to support our heroes astonishes us every day!

And now on to some creations!

I love love love making cards with the stars and stripes, so I have a couple cards to share with you! Each of the cards I’m sharing uses stamps created by Hero Arts as fundraisers for OWH – a percentage of the profits is donated to continue our work. We’re SO grateful to them for their partnership! And each one is great for writing AnyHero letters, too – I write tons of those every week!

The first card is stamped on yummy Hero Arts kraft… just love the texture! It takes white ink so nicely too…this card is based on a technique I saw Jennifer McGuire do with flowers in a class last year, and it adapted well to the “Hero” stamp set (LP344). I masked off an angled strip with Post its, and stamped the stars from the set in Unicorn white ink. I colored the open stars with Prismacolor pencils after adding a white line with a pen, and then added some blue shading next to that. I inked the stamp by carefully tapping Hero Arts Red Royal Shadow Ink on the “For your service” sentiment, Unicorn white on the stars, and Navy Shadow Ink on the “Grateful” portion.

My next card is totally stars and stripes! I love using direct-to-paper techniques, and that’s how I made the rough flag for my background; I dragged my Hero Arts Navy Shadow Ink pad across the corner to make a field for the stars, and then dragged the corner of the Red Royal pad for stripes! I stamped the eagle and sentiment from the What A Guy fundraiser set in Navy ink, fussycut the eagle and popped it with a little dimensional adhesive. This will work great as an AnyHero card!

Sandy Allnock A2Z Stars and Stripes 2

This last card I wanted to share because it’s smaller than an A2 card – AnyHero mail can be any size as long as it fits into a ziploc bag! And a smaller card makes some folks happy who don’t know what to write….so this allows less space, so the note can be shorter. I stamped the sentiment from the same Hero set from the first card above, and did it 3 times in both Red Royal and Navy, and trimmed them out. I let the size of the grid dictate the size of the card, that’s why it came out smaller. I stamped a corner with the stars inside.

I hope my cards inspired you to take a little time to write a note to a hero – they deserve all our gratitude for sacrificing so much on behalf of our nation!
