Peek-a-boo Hero Arts Purr Kitties card

Hi guys and hello August!

It’s Erica back on the blog today with another cat-i-licious card. I think it will be a safe bet to expect a few purrfect puns along the way, I ‘cat’ seem to help myself. The stamp set I’m talking about for todays card and post, is of course none other than the fur-tastic¬†Hero Arts Purr.

For this card I wanted to make my own patterned paper and colour that with my Zig markers, which meant grabbing my Stathmore Bristol Vellum card stock and MFT hybrid ink in Black Licorice again. I selected the ūüé∂little balls of fur… sorry, yarn. Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory managed to hack into my account and add his little feline twist. Right, anyway, the little ball of yarn and the cute mouse got selected, mounted on small acrylic blocks and then it was just a case of going crazy like a kitty with catnip!

When all the images were stamped on the card stock, I got a green, yellow, blue, red and pink Zig marker out and proceeded to colour in the balls of yarn. Instead of going random here, I kept each line the same colour. The little mice got coloured in with a warm grey marker for the bodies and a slight pink for those big ears.

The kitties I had already coloured and ready to be cut out using the coordinating frame cut , from my first post which you can find¬†here, and I selected a couple of them that looked like they were curious because which can’t isn’t curious?? Well, the idea was to cut out a hole in the panel, mount it on a card base and then pop the kitties inside the hole, like they are peeking out and can’t believe their luck to see so much yarn and mice. Sounds like a pawesome cat paradise, huh?

The card base I chose for this card is a mid dark grey card stock and I thought it would create a nice contrast for the kitties without washing them out (The one I have used here is from Simon Say Stamp but you can find a similar colour in this pack .) Black was too harsh and white was too bland. I like these different greys as they give a much softer look than black card stock. Plus I thought it tied in nicely with the yarn.. sorry, mice!

The peek-a-boo hole I cut out using a die-namic from MFT, called (unsurprisingly) Peek A Boo. Before I mounted the front panel to the card base, I covered the whole back of it with double sided foam tape. If you don’t have foam tape (excuse me while I go freak ooooooout! I am obsessed with foam tape!) you don’t need, I just like it to add a little bit of interest and dimension to a card without adding anything that shows if that makes sense?

To make sure the kitties showed the way I wanted them I added them to the front panel’s foam tape and once it was on the card, I added a little bit of adhesive behind them to make sure they didn’t run off.

This card doesn’t have a human language sentiment on it, just a feline one. I stamped up the ‘meow’ speech bubble and cut that out with the coordinating frame cut before adding it to the card with some more foam tape. (Hi, my name is Erica and I’m addicted to foam tape!)

As one last little flourish, I added some clear droplets from Studio Katia, in two different sizes. I thought they fitted better, being spheres, rather than sequins. The patterned paper is probably enough if you aren’t an ‘use all the embellishments’-kind of crafter. If you prefer gemstones you can find some¬†clear ones here.

Here is the full card. I hope you will leave feeling inspired to make your own patterned paper or a card using these cutie kitties.

See you all soon and happy crafting!

Kitchen Silhouettes & Cooking Fun Gift Card

bonapetit main wm.jpg

Hi everyone, it’s Angie today and I have a fun extra large sized card to share with you today. ¬†I used two digital sets for this card: ¬†Kitchen Silhouettes and Cooking Fun. ¬†Both sets are available exclusively at a2zscrapbooking store!

Also now available in the store is¬†¬†Gina K Designs Premium card stock. ¬†If you haven’t tried this card stock you are missing out! ¬†It’s available in the store and it’s 120 lb. weight and just as smooth and creamy as you can possibly imagine!

I wanted to make a card with a restaurant gift card inside, so I could write more on the inside since gift card holders are usually too small to write on. ¬†So I used the Thank You stamp set from a Hero Arts Kit –¬†set that also had the add-on gift card die from a Hero Arts kit a few months ago. ¬†There was also a die that came with the set. ¬†Here’s a link to the Thank You die-cut¬†that matches the stamp set.

This card is 6″ by 6″. ¬†I¬†put¬†the blue silhouette background digi stamp in MS Word and added the Bon Appetit from the Kitchen Fun set, on top of the background. ¬†Then I cut it out with a large square postage stamp die from my stash. ¬†I matted it on black card stock, then added it to some patterned paper from my stash. ¬†If you scroll down you can see the inside of the card where the gift card holder is and also the matching envelope I made. ¬†Since this card was an odd size, I knew I would have to make the envelope to fit it!

What a fast card!  Digital stamps are especially great when you are in a hurry!  I think I will be using these fun cooking/kitchen digital stamps a lot, especially for when I give homemade goodies away, or invite friends over for dinner!

Cute Cut Outs

Hello Crafters!

When I posted the last time I talked about how my mojo has taken a long vacation. Apparently, my mojo is a snowbird and must flee the Ohio winter weather. I really miss it though and I keep trying to coax it back. With that last post I told you one of the ways I try to overcome my fleeting creativity is by coloring. Another way I do it is by using tried and true sketches and techniques.

Most of us crafters know the rule of thirds. If you’re going to go off center things look best when assembled a third of the way up or down your card. I embraced that. I also tried to use some of my stashed patterned paper. Now normally paper is not my go to design, however, sometimes going through and looking at pretty designs or color combos can spark your own creative fire.

Just to be clear today’s ingredients: coloring, simple sketch, patterned paper = cute card.

Aren’t these bears just adorable? I own just about all the OWH sets from Hero Arts. They are just too darling not to buy ūüôā

I stamped my bears on white cardstock and colored with copics. I wanted it to be a little fun since it is so simple. Instead of fussy cutting the bears out completely, I left them attached to the white cardstock by using my paper trimmer to cut right up to the edge of the image. I then used my scissors to trim out just the top. I did add some wink of stella in clear but you can’t see it at all in the photo. ūüė¶

I love to frame things in so after I stamped my sentiment I drew a simple black line to add interest and tie everything together. Add the image with dimensional adhesive on top of some pattern paper and you’re done.

Too much white for you? By all means get more colorful!

DSCN9261

I did the exact same thing I did for the first card except this time I used the bottom third instead of the top third. I love the bright stripe. I think it adds a lot of fun. I will also never use this card because I pretty much forget everyone’s everything they would ever want to celebrate. Basically, I have a lot of hand made cards hanging out in my craft room. :/ I really should get better about that!!

If you’re looking for the new OWH stamps they are in the store along with lots of other goodies from Hero Arts latest release! If you feel like doing some shopping please feel free to use the code KellyL15 to save yourself 15% off your purchase of $25.00 or more.

You can also win $25.00 to spend at the store by playing along with our monthly challenge. February’s challenge is embossing and you still have a few days to get in on the fun!

Thanks for stopping by!
