Hero Arts Swallowtail Butterfly with Asian Flower Stencil

Hi there, I’m here at a2z today with a card for our Anything Goes Challenge!  Hope you can join in the fun and be eligible to win a $25 gift card to the a2z store!  Just make sure you use one main Hero Arts product on your creation!

I made the background with Distress Crayons, water and a baby wipe, then laid the stencil over the panel and used a stencil brush to add soft pink shadow ink on top for a fun design.  I cut two butterflies and layered them and added gems, then stamped the Hero Arts sentiment in black ink.  The polka dots on the side is actually ribbon from my stash.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Supplies used for my card were:

Hero Arts Snow White Folded Cards PS566

Hero Arts Snow Layering Paper PS610

Hero Arts Swallowtail Fancy Die DL133 (the butterfly)

Hero Arts Color Layering Flamingo CL962 (the sentiment)

Hero Arts Soft Pink Shadow Pink AF168

Hero Arts Intense Black Ink AF345

Hero Arts Asian Flower Pattern Stencil SA073 (the background)

out of stock but you can special order it!

Color Layering Butterflies ~ Hero Arts

It’s an ANYTHING GOES month here at a2z Scrapbooking. Sometimes that makes things easier and sometimes I just like a bit of direction with a specific challenge – what about you?

I started by stamping the butterfly “inners”. I decided that I would have 3 butterflies on the left, with slightly different orientations.

Then, I added the second layer to the butterfly by aligning the stamp over the initial stamped “inners,” trying to keep an even border around.

This is what the card looked after this second step.

Next, added the butterflies body and antenna. When stamping, I tried to keep the “head” slightly above the body.

It felt that I need to add something more, so I cut out masks from yellow post-it notes and covered the stamped butterflies.

Oops – I forgot to take a picture of the next steps. I added the sentiment from the same stamp set. With ink blending tools and tumbled glass distress ink, I added color. The masks were required so that the broken china color didn’t cover the stamped butterflies. I removed the masks and then added a bit of broken china on the edge of an acrylic block. With a water brush, I flung ink splots (is that a real word?) over the card in a random fashion.
