Beautiful Day Watercolor

FullSizeRender

Hi everyone, it’s Angie hoping to inspire you to join in the fun this month at A2Z Scrapbooking with our April watercolor challenge.  For all the details, click HERE.  Just be sure to use one main Hero Arts product to enter!

I used the new release set from Hero Arts You’re So Lovely stamps (CL949) and Hero Arts You’re So Lovely frame cuts (DL167)  along with Hero Arts Shadow Inks and Hero Arts Hues Black Dye Ink to make leaves and berries on the left of the card.

I used watercolor paper, inks from Zig markers, an acrylic block, paint brushes and a water spray bottle  to make the background.  (Just lay some ink on the block, spray it and your paper and use the brush to bring color to your paper.)  Next, I cut it out with a scalloped stitched rectangle frame die for interest around the outside edges and put it back together with tape on the back.  I cut stitched circles from the top center watercolor panel, from turquoise card stock, and from fun foam.  I mounted the turquoise stitched frame and the whole large panel on fun foam and attached it to a turquoise card base, then added the little water drops from my stash.  After I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set, I inset the greeting circle down in the opening.  Lastly, added the leaves and berries on the left side.  Then I cleaned all my stamps with Hero Arts Ultra Clean Stamp Cleaner NK202.

I had so much fun watercoloring – I’m sure you will too!  Give it a try and join us for this month’s challenge!

Bluebird of Happiness

Hey everyone – Jennifer here and I am in love with the layering stamp trend right now! Hero Arts has some fabulous layering sets and I couldn’t resist scooping up the bird on a branch – no one else has one like this that I’ve seen.

Better still, they give you the layering directions right on the package! Yay!

2015-06-14 23.00.03

Now my first attempt did wind up in the trash as I totally did not think my color choices through before I stamped them. Turns out Passion Fruit+Cornflower Blue+Pool=one ugly bird. Oops. I also mis-stamped the second layer, so for this attempt I found which box had my Misti in it and chose lighter colors – much better!

There’s a pretty birdy! I love the detail you get from the stamps, it’s truly amazing.

Colors used:
Bird – Soft Vanilla, Pool, Navy, Cup O’ Joe, Charcoal
Branch – Wet Cement, Bubble Gum, Green Hills, Forever Green

The background seemed like it was missing something, so I grabbed my Pool Dauber, some water, and a paint brush to add in some ink splatters.

Dab the dauber onto a non-stick surface (my craft sheet in this case) and then spritz in some water. Drag your brush through it and then tap-tap-tap over your panel.

The result when dry are soft, coordinating paint splats. Love them! You could also use the Spray Mists or your reinkers.

I wanted simple, so I trimmed the panel slightly to measure 4″x4″ and then mounted it to a 4.25″ square card base made from Mocha layering paper with foam tape. All done!

Now, the Color Layering Bird stamps have been such a hit that they are currently out of stock, but never fear – to get your own set, just hit the “request custom order” button on the left side of the shop and let us know you simply have to have one. Easy peasy! 🙂

While you’re shopping, be sure to use code Jennifer15 for 15% off your total purchase of $25 or more…and if you’re not a fan of fussy-cutting, grab the matching dies as well! And be sure to enter into our June Challenge, ‘New Beginnings’, for a chance to win some store spending money.

Heartfelt Wishes….

Good Morning and Happy Saturday,

It’s Lisa, aka (ThePurplePlace), and I am very happy to be sharing another card that I hope will inspire you to take part in our “Encouragement” themed challenge. for your chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate to the a2z Scrapbooking Store!   For all the details, please click on the August Monthly Challenge link over the side-bar!   To enter your card, you’ll need to scroll down the page and look for that cute little Blue Inlinkz Frog!    It’s also hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of August and for many that means the kiddos are already back in school or will be very soon!  I’m  one who loves Summer so it’s hard for me to see it end, but I know many of you love Fall and that change of seasons.

For my card today, I’m still very much still creating with my favorite colors and also colors that very much remind me of Summer, especially the beautiful “Pool” color I used for my card base, which I created with Hero’s fabulous layering papers.    I started this card by picking out my stamp set and it’s one that I have loved since the day I first saw it.   It’s called “Making the World a Better Place” and that alone makes me think it’s perfect for this challenge.  I also wanted to doing something fun and different so today I decided to paper-piece my flower and did that by stamping the image several times onto a variety of patterned papers, all in the teal and purple color combo.    I also used those same two patterned papers for as part of my background which always turned out to be a great way to tie all the elements together.   I matched the papers to the inks I had used on my water-colored background which was I created using Distress Inks, an acrylic block, some watercolor paper and a water mister.  I simply took the inks pads, and stamped the color directly onto my block and then misted it with water before stamping it onto watercolor paper.  The colors I used for this card are Shaded Lilac, Broken China and Evergreen Bough.   Once I had my background stamped I dried it with my heat gun and then quickly applied a second layer, using the same colors, but in a slightly different pattern.   After it was nice and dry, I stamped the flower image directly on top using Hero’s Black Ink.  I then slowly cut the pieces from the patterned papers and paper-pieced the onto my card.

Next, I started my card base which I quickly created using Hero’s gorgeous “Pool” layering paper.  Then I worked on my background, using the same “Patterned Papers” I had used on my flowers.  These just happen to be two of my all time favorites and sadly are both now retired.  The purple was from Memory Box and the lovely Teal was from Stampin’ UP. Luckily, I stocked up, when I first bought them and still have my own little special stash.    I used the “Avery Elle-ments” custom Panel die set to cut the papers into these fun geometrical shapes and adhered them to my Pool card base.  The next step was adding my stamped flowere, which I first cut down a bit, using one of the fabulous Stitched Dies, from Lil’ Inker Designs.  I used foam tape to pop the image up off the card and then using another die from the Avery Elle set, I cut out a white label for my Sentiment.  I chose “Heartfelt Wishes”, which is from one of my older Hero Arts Sets, called All Occasion Messages.   I stamped it in Hero’s Grape Juice Shadow Ink, and then added under the flower to complete this card.   I really loved how using both of these colors together turned out and I’m sure it’s a combination I will use again!

I hope that I have inspired you to create an “Encouragement” themed project and submit it to the challenge before it ends at midnight tomorrow.   Be sure that your entry includes at least ONE Hero Arts product.   One lucky winner will win a $25.00 gift certificate to the a2z Scrapbooking Supply Store!  Woohoo!  In the meantime, if you are interested in doing some shopping now, please feel free to use my Design Team Promo Code – LISAH15 – which will save you 15% on your entire order of $25.00 and up (excluding shipping).   We are very happy to have several new Christmas products in from the latest release and will continue to add more and re-stock, what has already sold out.

We are also continuing to add new Digital Kits to the store and are very excited about now selling these “Exclusively” for Hero Arts!   I’m loving all the Hybrid cards I have already created with some of my digital kits.   I hope you all had a chance to take part and see the fabulous inspiration in the “Digital Blog Hop“, that was hosted by Hero Arts and a2z Scrapbooking this past Monday!   If not, I highly recommend you check it out today, it’s awesome.
