Nuvo Embellishment Mousse experiment

Hi!  We have a treat for you two posts today yay!!

If you are looking for Leslie’s project, please click Here.

Now onto Erica’s post.

Hello, hello! Erica on the blog today with something rather out of my comfort zone. I tried Nuvo Embellishment mousse for the first time and yep, I know I’m late to the party because W-O-W! I’m loving it! Oh yes, I think you will be seeing a lot more of this from me from now on. Honestly, I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to try it. It’s so fun and adds fabulous texture to your projects. Oh, the possibilities!

IMG_8409

Today’s card isn’t necessarily my favorite by any means BUT I’m a firm believer of being real when it comes to crafting. Try something and it doesn’t work out? Someone will have made the same mistake and come up with a great solution. Don’t like how it looks? Someone will have an idea of how to make it work. Sharing is caring and sometimes a time-saver for someone else. And with that, I’m going to dive right in:

I started with an A2 sized card panel in water colour card stock and on this I blended a mixture of Distress Oxide ink Picked Raspberry  and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide inks. Next time I might use Abandoned Coral instead to create more of a contrast, it turned out a bit “same-y same-y”. I wish I had a vivid fuchsia texture paste for this (like this one called Pink Flambe) or maybe a Mother Of Pearl like this one but alas I had to use a Bronze coloured one from Nuvo. Combining this mousse with the Hero Arts Long Leaves Stencil  stencil I got to work with a spatula. I have been told to work quickly with this as it dries fast so I might have been a bit too hasty in my spreading but it came out ok-ish. Next time I think I will keep a damp cloth on hand so I can wipe it off as soon as I’m done. It does get into all the nooks and crannies on the stencils.

Whilst the mousse was drying, I stamped up a few images and sentiments from Hero Arts Happy Mail in Distress Oxide inks (Wild Honey, Fired Brick and Picked Raspberry) and cut these out. One of them I mounted on black card stock just a tiny bit bigger than the white card stock to create a nice frame for it. You can also use Hero Arts Love by Lia for similar sentiments.

Using foam tape I added these to the card base and then sat back and looked at it. I felt it was missing something and added a few little touches directly to the card base using the same Happy Mail stamp set.

It still looked like it needed a little something else and at this point I actually asked my husband for an opinion. Don’t laugh, he gives really good advice sometimes. Not every time mind you, but most of the time he will at least make me look at the card with new eyes and see a different way to finish it off. His advice was to add something white as it was all a bit too pink (I didn’t say he was always right, did I?? ) but I started out by filling in the word ‘hugs’ with a white gel pen. Then I drew a few lines in between the  leaves and all of a sudden they ended up looking like feathers!

IMG_8408

Like I said in the beginning, this card isn’t my favourite but I had fun making it and will definitely be using texture paste and embellishment mousse again very soon!

Hero Arts CM179 Winter Silhouettes Christmas Card

Well, it’s the 14th, so it’s my turn here at a2z Scrapbooking. I’m here with another Christmas card.

I’m using the same stamp set that I did here last month. This month, I chose another non-traditional Christmas color – tumbled glass (distress ink). I stamped the trees along the edges of my panel and stamped a deer, one lonely deer, between the trees. In retrospect, I probably should have stamped another deer, so the first one would have a friend. I matted the panel with teal cardstock. I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set and added a few snowflakes. I added some Nuvo glitter drops – White Blizzard for a bit of sparkle.

Hero Arts Color Layering Joy Message Christmas Card

Hi! It’s Sue with another Christmas card. I’m trying to building up my Christmas card collection so that I’m not scrambling in mid-December to try to complete enough cards for my mailing list.

Here’s my card

It’s a clean and simple card with lots of white space. I stamped the sentiment and positioned it in the lower right quadrant. I added some holly leaves in the upper left quadrant. I wasn’t fond of the holly berries that were with the holly leaves, so I added holly berries from another stamp set. I matted the panel on a piece of red cardstock.

Just a little note, a2z Scrapbooking Supplies will be donating two prizes to The Caring Hearts Card Drive over at Ling’s Studio…Vera began this card drive that collects handmade holiday cards for seniors in nursing homes 8 years ago. The first year, they collected 750 cards. And last year they received over 66,000 cards and distributed the cards to various nursing homes throughout the US, Canada, Australia and United Kingdom. Isn’t that amazing? Here’s the info on the card drive if you want to join in this year.

Remembrance Day card using Hero Arts Layering Poppy

Hello everyone, it’s Erica on the blog today with a card inspired by the British Remembrance Sunday’s red poppy. Remembrance Sunday is held on the closest Sunday to the 11th in the month of November and is the British Memorial Day. I’ve just realised I’m a month early but oh well, let’s call it ‘extra gratitude’ given the tumultuous events of the world recently.

FullSizeRender 22

The Hero Arts Color Layering Poppy with the Poppy Layering Ink Cubes are a match made in heaven, which those Hero Arts peeps planned beautifully. Sneaky indeed!

The first thing I did, which is what I always do with a new layering stamp, is to go nuts with stamping. Over and over again! Usually I’m trying different ink colours but as these are perfectly matched there is no guessing game, leaving you with more stamping time.

I ended up with something like 15 poppies in different sizes after using the Hero Arts Color Layering Poppy Frame Cuts. I never have claimed to be able to rein myself in…. Anyway, setting all my poppies aside I started on a background and wanted to keep it quite simple to make sure the poppies are the focus. On an A2 card sized water card panel I swished some green water colours around, you can use Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Twisted Citron or Hero Arts Green Apple Hybrid Ink if you don’t have any water colours. I also added a few stems in green ink.

FullSizeRender 23

On a small banner, I heat embossed one of the sentiment from the stamp set ‘heartfelt thanks’ in gold embossing powder. There is this one Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder  and if you don’t have a heat gun, here is a link to one in the shop. I thought the sentiment was pretty perfect as this is a card is for all those who have served and given the ultimate sacrifice for all of us and our freedom.

With that and one last thank you to everyone who’s been or is in service, I am so grateful for all you do and have done!

Hero Arts CM181 Bird Words Christmas Card

Hi! Sue here with a new project for you. It’s a Christmas card because it is less than three months to Christmas and I believe that it’s never too soon to start your Christmas cards – right?

Here’s my card

So, I’ll admit it. I held the stamp set in my hands wondering what to do. The birds are cute and the message perfect.  What to do? I thought about a monochromatic card with a pop of colour. So, that’s what I did. I chose three birds – merry, hope, noel and arranged them randomly and stamped them with gray ink, leaving a space for the hope bird, which I stamped with red ink using my MISTI.  The card seemed a bit plain, so I added a strip of sparkly silver cardstock for a bit of sparkle.

Hero Arts CM179 Winter Silhouettes

Hi there! It’s Sue here with a new card. I love working on Christmas cards because  I love reflecting on my favorite Christmas memories. Here’s my card

.

I stamped the trees in pink – not really a traditional Christmas color. However, it reminded me of my Aunt’s pink Christmas tree from the 70s. I think that she was ahead of her time – pink trees seem pretty trendy today. I then stamped the child, sled and dog. For the sentiment, I used silver embossing powder and heat set it. I matted the entire panel on bright pink to draw out the pink color, even more! To add a bit of sparkle, I added some Nuvo drops White Blizzard glitter drops on the trees.

Hero Arts Woof friendship cards

Hello, hello! Erica on the blog today, from our new house AND new country! Oh yes, we don’t do things by half around here. “Let’s move”, “Sure thing, hunny-buns, which country shall we go to this time??” is more like our MO. Right now, I’m sitting on the sofa in a half-unpacked house in POLAND, having only moved here from Denmark 8 days ago and got the keys to the house 6 days ago. The craft room is almost all sorted because ya know, #priorities. The bedroom and kitchen are nearly as they should be too. The rest of the house? Eh, that’s gonna be a work in progress for a while I think. Tidy, schmidy will be my motto for at least a few weeks!

Well, now that I’ve got that off my chest, shall we get down to some crafty business? I have two cards for you today, both made with the Hero Arts Woof stamp set and coordinating Woof Frame Cuts. These cards are quite different and I like being able to see different techniques being used with the same stamp set. If it seems really versatile, I’m more likely to buy it as it feels like more bang for the buck.

I did my usual thing here when I got this stamp set, I stamped up loads of adorable little doggies and coloured them in. I think one of the reasons I do this is to get a good feel for the stamps and to try out different looks without “committing” to making a card right away. I did a few with Zig Clean Colour markers and some with Copic markers but for the cards today, I only ended up using the ones done with Copics.

When I had a whole pack of puppies coloured in, it was time to start on the backgrounds. For these I used another couple of different techniques, both with lovely results if I may say so myself.

For my first one I got some of those delicious Distress Oxide inks out and using a homemade cloud stencil I blended some Broken China blue around the stencil to create a sky. I did the same thing to make a grassy ground for the pups to play on using Cracked Pistachio green Distress Oxide inks. The dies I used to create the stencils are both from My Favorite Things.

FullSizeRender 17

When it came to decide on a sentiment, I used one from the stamp set that says ‘You + Me Friends Forever’ and I picked a couple of the doggies that I had coloured in to look like my Cheeky Chicas (my two little rescue dogs, they are sisters and adopted from Spain hence the chica nickname and if you are curious to see them for yourself, here is a link to my Instagram where I post regular photos of their mischief) The sentiment I stamped in black ink on white card stock and then I used a Mama Elephant stitched cloud die to cut it out along with a plain white cloud and a bright yellow sun.

In the Hero Arts Woof stamp set there are lots of cute little accents to make your card or project perfectly doggie-licious and I have used several of them for these cards. For the first one I only stamped up a couple of hearts and used the coordinating Frame Cut to cut them out. Now I had all the bits I wanted for my first card and it was time to assemble! This took very little time as I had a picture in my mind of how I wanted it to look. Using foam tape to create dimension and layers I glued away until I was happy with the results. A few clear sequins snuck on it too.

FullSizeRender 16

For my second card I went in a more monochomatic style, even the doggies I used are grey/black-ish. The only colour splash are the little hearts and the ink blending on the word sentiment.

FullSizeRender 19

Whilst my first card turned out pretty much as I had planned, this one did the exact opposite! At first I thought I’d stamp this up as background paper and colour it in using bright colours but I ended up liking it so much without any colour (*gasp of shock* I know, I know… surprise twist or what?!) and that is how the little pink hearts got added because I felt a little bit of pink wouldn’t hurt.  They were not part of my original plan at all. I stamped these using Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink.

As my little doggies were already coloured in, this card came together rather quickly once I decided to skip the colouring step. A stitched rectangle frame (good old Lawn Fawn to the rescue again) in black linen textured card stock, as well as the word die ‘Love’ which got an ombré pink effect with the help of the same Distress Oxide ink as the hearts are stamped, a white banner to stamp the sentiment on and some foam tape later, BAM! Done.

FullSizeRender 18

That’s it from me today, I hope you have enjoyed this post and that my cards have inspired you to get your colouring on. Don’t forget that there is a marvellous colouring challenge going on for the month of September, called The Daily Marker 30 Days or check out the hashtag #thedailymarker30day. The idea is to have some me-time every day and colour a little bit, even if it’s just 5-10 mins. There is no pressure or commitment, it’s just plain fun and we can all use a bit more of that these days, can’t we?

Anyway, with that, I’m off to organise, move some stuff around and attempt to learn some basic Polish… Or maybe I should just stick to crafting?

Hero Arts Holiday Ornaments Stamp & Cut Card

Oh my, it’s less than four months until Christmas. I need to get making my Christmas cards so that I’m not scrambling at the last minute, like usual. Here’s a simple Christmas card.

I used my MISTI for positioning the sprig of greenery. The clear stamps are great because I can gently curve the ends of the sprigs so they overlap before inking it up. I stamped the bow on a scrap of cardstock and die cut it out using the die from the Stamp & Cut set. I felt that there was a bit too much white space, even for me. So, I matted the stamped image with a dark neutral. To add a bit of shine, I added Nuvo drops to the leaves and twigs. I set it aside to dry. The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

Enjoy the Journey On A Bright and Beautiful Sea Voyage

I’d like to share a card that is glittery and bright and hopefully beautiful.  This is my third time this season to use this set for A2Z Scrapbooking.  I think three times is the charm.   I found this light filmy glittery paper at my local stamp shop before they closed (paper thin and soft).  I was able to stamp and die cut the ship and pop it up.  The black while and squid are cut from glitter cardstock.

Close-up of the bright glitter surfaces.

Peek-a-boo Hero Arts Purr Kitties card

Hi guys and hello August!

It’s Erica back on the blog today with another cat-i-licious card. I think it will be a safe bet to expect a few purrfect puns along the way, I ‘cat’ seem to help myself. The stamp set I’m talking about for todays card and post, is of course none other than the fur-tastic Hero Arts Purr.

For this card I wanted to make my own patterned paper and colour that with my Zig markers, which meant grabbing my Stathmore Bristol Vellum card stock and MFT hybrid ink in Black Licorice again. I selected the 🎶little balls of fur… sorry, yarn. Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory managed to hack into my account and add his little feline twist. Right, anyway, the little ball of yarn and the cute mouse got selected, mounted on small acrylic blocks and then it was just a case of going crazy like a kitty with catnip!

When all the images were stamped on the card stock, I got a green, yellow, blue, red and pink Zig marker out and proceeded to colour in the balls of yarn. Instead of going random here, I kept each line the same colour. The little mice got coloured in with a warm grey marker for the bodies and a slight pink for those big ears.

The kitties I had already coloured and ready to be cut out using the coordinating frame cut , from my first post which you can find here, and I selected a couple of them that looked like they were curious because which can’t isn’t curious?? Well, the idea was to cut out a hole in the panel, mount it on a card base and then pop the kitties inside the hole, like they are peeking out and can’t believe their luck to see so much yarn and mice. Sounds like a pawesome cat paradise, huh?

FullSizeRender 6

The card base I chose for this card is a mid dark grey card stock and I thought it would create a nice contrast for the kitties without washing them out (The one I have used here is from Simon Say Stamp but you can find a similar colour in this pack .) Black was too harsh and white was too bland. I like these different greys as they give a much softer look than black card stock. Plus I thought it tied in nicely with the yarn.. sorry, mice!

The peek-a-boo hole I cut out using a die-namic from MFT, called (unsurprisingly) Peek A Boo. Before I mounted the front panel to the card base, I covered the whole back of it with double sided foam tape. If you don’t have foam tape (excuse me while I go freak ooooooout! I am obsessed with foam tape!) you don’t need, I just like it to add a little bit of interest and dimension to a card without adding anything that shows if that makes sense?

To make sure the kitties showed the way I wanted them I added them to the front panel’s foam tape and once it was on the card, I added a little bit of adhesive behind them to make sure they didn’t run off.

This card doesn’t have a human language sentiment on it, just a feline one. I stamped up the ‘meow’ speech bubble and cut that out with the coordinating frame cut before adding it to the card with some more foam tape. (Hi, my name is Erica and I’m addicted to foam tape!)

As one last little flourish, I added some clear droplets from Studio Katia, in two different sizes. I thought they fitted better, being spheres, rather than sequins. The patterned paper is probably enough if you aren’t an ‘use all the embellishments’-kind of crafter. If you prefer gemstones you can find some clear ones here.

Here is the full card. I hope you will leave feeling inspired to make your own patterned paper or a card using these cutie kitties.

FullSizeRender 5

See you all soon and happy crafting!
