Waterlilies from the Color Layering Koi set

Hello crafty friends,

Today I made a tag featuring the Waterlilies from the Hero Arts Color Layering Koi stamp set.  At first I thought the flowers may be too small, but in the end it turned out just fine.

My process:

  • Trim white card stock into 3 1/4 by 5 1/5 in tag.  Use inking tool and sponge Broken China, Chipped Sapphire, and Milled Lavender to create a soft background.
  • Layer Hero Arts Delicate Petals Stencil on top of inked tag.  Spread thin layer of white embossing paste, remove stencil and let dry.
  • On white card stock, ink and stamp waterlilies, and lily pads.  Die cut using Hero Arts Color Layering Koi Frame Cuts.
  • Color flower center using Copic markers.
  • Stamp sentiment from same set on vellum strips using Jet Black StazOn ink.
  • Adhere waterlilies, lily pads, and sentiment on tag as shown.
  • Tie bow using strip of white soft tulle.

I think the embossed background provides a nice backdrop of the waterlilies.

Hero Arts Color Layering Butterflies Frame Cuts

Stenciling is this month’s challenge.  I made my own stencil here.

stencil-a2z-logo-challenge

The second page to my notebook (still not sure what I’m calling it) has a patterned base and two pockets.  On top of the top layer, I stamped different words and phrases over a homemade stenciled background, while on the base I used a couple of the images in my home made stencil   If you don’t have a stencil you want to use, you can make one to your liking by using your dies.   The first image is my page without the tabbed notes inserted in the pockets.  The top pocket is on tape.

I added my tabbed notccards into the pockets so I know what I’ve worked on and ideas for the future.

Love Swirls You and Me

Happy Sunday everyone,

I have created a card using the Hero Arts Love Swirls Stencil today.  The pattern on the stencil is already very vibrant and I don’t want to hide it too much, so just added a sentiment on vellum.  Let’s take a look.

My process:

  • Place 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inch white card stock on stencil, centering it and secure with washi tape.  (Note that the stencil is 5 1/4 by 6 1/2, larger than the quarter fold size.  So this stencil would be great for a larger layout.)
  • Flip the stencil over, use inking tool and sponge Wild Honey and Ripe Persimmon onto paper as shown.
  • Remove stencil.  Heat emboss the image with clear EP.
  • Stamp and heat emboss in white the sentiment from the Hero Arts Love by Lia clear stamp set on vellum strip longer than 4 1/4 in.
  • Draw lines on edges of vellum using white gel pen.
  • Fold both ends of vellum and tuck behind the stenciled panel, secure with tape.
  • Round corner of stenciled panel and adhere to white card base.
  • Embellish with sequins.

Isn’t this stencil gorgeous?!  I hope I’ve inspired you to join in our March challenge – Playing With Stencils.  You could win a $25 gift card to the store.

BOLD FLORAL STENCIL FROM HERO ARTS

Bold Floral Stencil of Hero Arts is one of my favorites and today I am happy to share this card with you. Hello crafty friends, Martha Lucia here with a colorful textured card created with one of the most beautiful stencils from Hero Arts, the Bold Floral. Take a look at my card:

BOLD FLORAL STENCIL FROM HERO ARTS

Working with stencils is very fun and you can explore different techniques with them. On this opportunity I used Creative Medium Iridescent to create this effect that is more evident over dark card stocks.  The base of my card is Whisper White and the second layer, the one I worked over with the stencil, is Always Artichoke.

I secured the stencil with masking tape and I start by applying the creative medium with a palette knife over the free areas of the stencil using three different colors. I used Purple, Green and Pink of creative medium. I removed the stencil and washed with warm water and let the card stock dry naturally.

Using the die cut included on the set Happy Stamp & Cut from Hero Arts and whisper white card stock, I cut several times the word happy and pasted these to create a bold word. Then I assembled my card leaving a tiny border on the left and top parts and and pasting the word on the center of the card to create a big contrast.

BOLD FLORAL STENCIL FROM HERO ARTS

The process was very easy and the effect is amazing! You can explore this technique using embossing paste and to give color to it simply by adding a few drops of ink. Also if you don’t have Creative Medium Iridescent, you can use Pearlescent Embossing Paste and mix it with the inks.

Distress Stripes and Hero Arts Peacock Stencil

Aloha and Happy Wednesday friends!  This month’s challenge is playing with stencils and there are so many techniques to use.  The best part about stencils is they’re inexpensive and super versatile!  Here’s my card for today…

Hero Arts Peacock Feather Stencil and Distress Stripes

I first created some stripes using Distress Inks in Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Blueprint Sketch on Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  Then I took the Hero Arts Peacock Feathers Stencil  and layed it over and gave it a quick mist of water, blotting away the excess.  This technique gives you a bit of a “bleached look.”  Extra tips: fine mist works best and blotting right after.  Also placing a darker layer of Distress Inks makes the “bleaching effect” more prominent.

Hero Arts Peacock Feather Stencil and Distress Stripes

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Birthday Messages and is inked in Hero Arts Intense Black ink and added a couple of thin black strips of cardstock to bring out the black ink.  To complete the look I added the new Hero Arts Ombre Ocean sequins.  These sequins are gorgeous and I love that there are different shades and 2 different sizes!

I hope this inspires you to join our monthly challenge for your chance to win $25 to the a2z Scrapbooking store!  We also have ANOTHER chance for you to get a $25 gift certificate by simply commenting on each blog post throughout March!

Mahalo for stopping by and good luck!!

Hero Arts Color Layering Peacock and Peacock Feathers Stencil

Hi everyone!

Ilina’s here today! Today I have a card for you using the Peacock feather stencil and the Color Layering peacock set along with the coordinating inks.

First I stenciled onto my card base using the deep ocean ink pad, then I stamped the peacock onto white card stock using the MISTI stamp positioning tool. At the end I stamped the feet and sentiment and adhered it to my card base using some fun foam.

To finish it up I added some blue ombre sequins.

Stencil with a Hero Arts Butterfly Fancy Die

Welcome to the A2Z challenge of stenciling.  You can use your stencils to create depth and and shape.

stencil-a2z-logo-challengeIf you don’t have a stencil, you can create your own, which is what I’ve done here.  I am not exactly creating a journal, nor a notebook or a book of images or designs.  I’m not sure yet, what it will end up being, but one has to make a start at least.  I needed something to keep track of challenges and designs as well as being fun.   I made a page to fit a grunge book which I am painting white.  This will be a page inside the book.  I chose a patterned paper and used a stencil of various sized dots, then die cut the butterfly to use it as a stencil.  I sponged white Unicorn ink into the holes and along the border of the butterfly stencil.   I would not have used the white inked butterfly except that it brought out the outlines of inked butterfly image that I stenciled.

I added some words and small gems, white reinforcements and a digital image for color.

I embossed this super fun Hero Arts background stamp with Hero Arts white embossing powder on some miscellaneous watercolor paper – really – it was just in my stash from a kit I received a few months ago. I then sponged on 3 distress inks – Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, and Dusty Concord. I used the Distress Sprayer to add some water, let it sit for a bit then mopped up any excess with a dry paper towel.

I already had this THANKS die cut sponged and tipped with gold and I was bound and determined to put it to use! I embossed the additional sentiment on vellum from the Hero Arts Thanks stamp and cut set.

I recently purchased these 4 Tim Holtz dies; I cut one from cardstock and used it as a stencil to apply gold paint and texture paste mixed together. The corner piece is another one of the dies cut from vellum.

I finished it off with some black and white striped paper from my stash, gold glitter paper, a cute little pre-cut doily already colored in purple and layered it all up and mounted with fun foam.

Thanks for visiting, we can’t wait to see your creations!
