To start my card base I did a quick watercolor wash with my Gansai Tambi watercolors, starting with the teal colors and then splattering with some gold. Next, I printed the graduation stamp onto some blue card stock and then traced over it with a gold gel pen, followed by cutting it out with my brother scan n cut. For my sentiment I uploaded the SVG file into cricut design space and cut out the image on my cricut explore using the same blue card stock from the hat, and some gold foil cardstock on top. Once the watercolor was dry I glued down my sentiment and popped the die cut hat on with some foam adhesive, and there you have it!

Shaped card Mermaid Kisses

Hi everybody,

 

My mermaid lives in a giant oyster!!  I had a lot of fun making this shape card and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do making it.  Let’s check it out.

The oyster is a stamp from the Hero Arts Mermaid Kisses Clear Stamp set, but it’s not big.  So I stamped it on a piece of white scrap paper, scanned it, resized and printed on watercolor paper.   I learnt this technique from the Hero Arts Blog many years ago.  It really is a great way to stretch your stamp.  Below is a photo showing the original stamping (small image on the left), and the enlargement.

For some reason the printing was not very dark like the part of the pearl; I suspect that it’s due to the enlargement.  So I darken the image with a waterproof black pen before I watercolored it, then it’s hand cut.  I used the shape to trace and hand cut the back panel, creased at the left, and glued the two together.  I stamped and watercolored the mermaid, the corals, and star fish, and die cut using the matching cutting dies.  And I adhere them onto my card.  And embellished with an art pearl.  To add shine to I coated some area with Wink of Stella.  Here’s a close up.

Hero Arts Everything Smiles Hello II

Hi everyone,

I like flowers, a lot!!  Anything image resembles flowers grabs my attention.  Having that said, I also enjoy using different things to make images that resemble flowers.  For today I created a floral card without using any floral stamp.  Take a look:

 

 

I used the smiley heart in the Hero Arts Everything Smiles Stamp and Cut set, it is perfect to double up as a flower petal.  I stamped it in Soft Granite and watercolored the blooms.  Do you know that the Hero Arts shadow ink is good for both watercolors and markers.  They won’t bleed or run even if you go over it with watercolors!!

So after I did my blooms I found that the background is just too empty, guess I didn’t plan it out, was too excited about making flowers with the heart!!  LOL  But the little curly streamer bits from the Monthly Hero Kit Dec 2016 came to the rescue!  I stamped them in Peeled Paint and Soft Leaf.  The floral panel is mounted onto a charcoal grey card base, the sentiment is stamped in Soft Granite and watercolored and matted with dark grey card stock.

Mermaids with Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors

Hi, friends, it’s Chark here today to share not one, not two, but three mermaid cards made with the new Mermaid Stamp & Cut. It’s a smaller set of stamps that comes with two dies for $14.99 and is just so much fun to color.

The first thing I did was to break out the new liquid watercolors from Hero Arts. I have the Deep Ocean, Strawberry and Dandelion colors. I saw this video from Jennifer McGuire and decided to give her technique a go. I used both watercolor paper and Bristol smooth paper.

I watercolored a base blue on the Bristol paper and then dotted the yellow and blue paints directly onto the dried paper. I sprayed with water from above until it moved around just a little and let it air dry. That background became this card below. I used a new branch die and the Mermaid Ombre sequins to make a kind of coral reef thing for her to rest on. I used Prismacolor pencils to color all the mermaids.

For this next card, I used watercolor paper and wet the whole paper a ton and then used the blue and yellow droppers to drop color in puddles onto the paper.  I tipped the paper and let the colors run together. After it dried, I spritzed with water and then soaked up the color. I added some Mermaid Ombre sequins and clear Nuvo drops as bubbles.

For my last card, I used smooth Bristol paper and sprayed it with water until it was saturatedand then dropped color onto it, still using the blue and yellow. I did move the paper a little to get some variation in color (where the pigment runs a bit) but not too much. I added Diamond Stickles as bubbles on this one and added a strip of washi tape at the top.

I still have tons of papers left to use as backgrounds or for die cutting and still have plenty of watercolor left in the bottles for using as regular watercolors if I choose.

Hero Arts Wishing Well Sympathy Card

Hero Arts Wishing Well

When I saw this set in the new 2018 release, I knew I had to have it!
It reminds me of those wooded well covers (for those of you on well water) We had one in our front yard forever.
And then wishing well, well water, water color, here we go!

This was one of those cards that just came to me, I envision this background the moment I got the stamp in hand and had to put it to paper. So I started with an a2 sized piece of water color card-stock that I coated generously with water.
Using a glass cutting board as a palette, I drew out an assortment of greens and blues from my Distress Markers, and dabbed color onto my wet card stock until I had the look I wanted. Setting that aside to dry I moved onto my images.

To get the flower basket attached to the wishing well, I first stamped the flower basket, masked it off, and stamped the wishing well over top, lining up the rope with the basket, to appear as one seamless image. I stamped all of the other images from the set at the same time, water colored everything and once dry, used the coordinating dies to cut out.

To pull it all together, I laid out and adhered my cut out images onto my now dry background. Stamped my sentiment in VersaFine ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder to add a little texture. And finally added some sequins and splatters of shimmer here and there to add some interest.

Ornament New Year Easel Card

Hello,

Cindy here to share a New Year card, inspired by this month’s challenge theme: Make It Pop!  I made for you an easel card.  Let’s take a look.

 

To create the pointy shape part of my card I used one of the ornament dies from the Ornament Infinity Dies set and did partial die cut (left one in photo below).  For my pink bow tie, I select a smaller die from the same set (right one in photo below).

Here’s the back view.

I could have just die cut the ornament and glue to the card, but I think this is more elegant.  I die cut both the card base and my pattern paper the same way.  So I could sandwich the sparkly candles in between the two layers.

The ‘cheers’ are comprised for three layers of card stock and top with glitter card stock.  Champagne bottles and party hat are heat embossed and watercolored.  The year are stickers, but I outlined it with a white gel pen to make it stands out more.

This would be my last a2z dt project of 2017.  So I think it is a good time wish you all a wonderful holiday season and a happy 2018.  See you in the new year!!

Santa Snacks Step Card

It is almost Christmas time!!  What kind of cookies are you preparing for Santa?  🙂

This year I am a little busy so I didn’t actually make any cookies yet.  But I had stamped a lot of gingerbread cookies.  They are for my “mountain fold step card” inspired by this month’s challenge theme: Make It Pop.

The height of each fold from back to front (in inches) are: 3.5, 1.5 and 1.  Width of card is 5.5 inches.  The light bulbs are cut fron pattern paper and I added Sprinkled Sugar on top to give it some texture and shine.  Not sure if you notice, but the hollies on each end are glued onto the pattern paper, but the center one is attached with foam adhesive, and the other two are half on paper and half popped up. I wanted to create a gradual 3D effect, if this term exists.  🙂

Watercolor Ornament Shaped Card

Hi everybody,

 

Ever since I got my Ornament Infinity Dies I wanted to use the largest die to make a shaped card.  Yup finally did it!!  I created a snowy sunset scene.

I use watercolor and painted the sunset and snowy ground first, then stamped the shrubs/trees.  Next I white heat emboss the snowflakes.  Stamped sentiment and added the adorable watercolored moose.  To ensure the ornament can stand I cut the back panel slightly on the bottom.  Like so.

 

I used many sets on my card, the round shrub is from the 3-D House Essential set, the slender shrub is actually the Thyme from the Fresh Herbs set, the snowflakes and moose are from the Woodland Set by Lia, the sentiment is from the Winter Cheer Tag Set by Lia, and the “made with love” words are from the Santa Snacks Stamp and Cut.   I really had fun creating this card.  Hope you would join me and play along this month’s challenge – Winter.  Remember there are new rules, be sure to check it by clicking the Challenge Rules button on the top.

Hero Arts CM165 Color Layering Sea Turtle

Hi! It’s Sue. Surprise – not a Christmas card this time! I’m dreaming of my planned trip to Hawaii. Hence, my card for today.

This sea turtle stamp reminds me of the beautiful waters off Hawaii and all the sea critters in those waters. For this card, I started with the background panel. I used distress inks (salty ocean, peacock feathers) added with a water brush onto 96 lb bristol. I added the colours to try to mimic the oceans around Hawaii. I also inked up the turtle using my MISTI and distress inks (twisted citron, mowed lawn, forest moss). I spritzed each inked stamp with water for a watercolour effect. I fussy cut the turtle. I inked up the seaweed with Hero Arts field greens and stamped with both first and second generation stamping. I used a sentiment from a different stamp set.

Postage Infinity Watercolor Shaker

Hello hello,

 

One thing I love playing with watercolors is that the result often surprise me.  For today’s project I started creating an ombre background.  And I wanted to add a subtle pattern on top.  So after the first layer dried, I place the stencil on top and paint with more watercolors thinking to have the stencil pattern.  Well well well the watercolors appears to have it’s own mind and I ended up with this.

Okay, the fact is some of the watecolors went underneath the stencil so I didn’t get a clear cut pattern.  But I absolutely love how it turned out.  It looks like a winter scene with a snowy mountain in the center.  Now the question is what to do next?!  I really don’t want to cut it up too much.  So my Postage Stamp Infinity Dies came to the rescue!!  😀

I die cut using two of the dies,  stamped sentiment and made a shaker element with the smaller die cut area.  So what do you think?
