Thinking of You Watercolor

Hello Crafters!

It’s Kelly here and I’m sharing a very simple watercolor card with you guys today.

DSCN9869pt

I started by adding walnut stain distress ink to only the right and bottom edge of the pot stamp. I didn’t ink the top because I knew I wanted the flowers to over hang the front of the pot. I added in my flowers only inking the areas I wanted to add. One of the many wonderful things about stamping with distress markers. For the flowers I used spun sugar because it’s dark enough to give you a guide but light enough that it won’t show after the watercoloring.

Now for the fun part!

I scribbled some distress ink onto an acrylic block to use for painting. For the flowers I used worn lipstick, seedless preserves, broken china, and chipped sapphire. I added more water to some petals or laves than others. This is what gives the beautiful variation that watercolor has. I added a bit of ground under the pot and stamped a simple sentiment to finish it off.

Here’s the same card but with a butterfly added in.

I didn’t really “Love” the way the butterfly turned out but that’s okay. You can’t be head over heels for all of them!!

Have you played along in our current challenge yet, it’s New Beginnings. Births, birthdays, weddings, there’s all kinds of options 🙂 If you haven’t joined in don’t worry you have all month long!

Thanks for stopping by today

Congrats on Your New Baby

Hello Crafters!

So a few weeks ago I received my order of brand new Hero Arts goodies. I have been staring at them waiting for the time that I would actually have time to use them. Finally, that time came. Of all the sets I bought I could NOT wait to use the new Baby Animals set! I mean who doesn’t melt at the sight of such adorable stamps?!

Also, I could color them which makes my heart happy. AND our current challenge is coloring. What?! Two birds one stone 🙂 If that wasn’t enough the gorgeous uber talented Kathy Racoosin is doing a thirty day coloring challenge that I just couldn’t pass up. She is amazing. It’s not just her talent either. It’s her. Period. She is kind and generous. Plus that girl can color some socks off. Seriously, go visit, pick up some awesomeness and bring it back here to our color challenge 🙂

Alright, let’s get to the card shall we?

DSCN9271

So friends of ours just had a daughter and it’s a special baby so I wanted her to have a special card. I knew I wanted the background to be watercolored but I really wanted to get some copics onto those cuties. Why does this pose a problem?

Well to watercolor you need a water resistant ink but . . .to color copics you can’t use waterproof ink. I decided to risk it. You do as you wish 😉

I couldn’t pick just one of those cutie pies to use so I decided to use them like a border. I stamped them in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I was very careful to add my water around my images but of course some of it bumped the edges and caused m ink to bleed. It was fine. No, really. I promise. I just used a dry towel to absorb the water with the black in it. I added distress inks to the background and then blotted my towel around for a super subtle background. Don’t want subtle? Add more layers of watercolor. I heat set my background and busted out the copics.

Yippee!

After the copic coloring was done I added some white pen polka dots. Polka dots equal baby in my head. I don’t know why. After the white was done I outlined all of the images using a copic multiliner. Yes it’s a little time consuming YES it’s totally worth it. I didn’t want to leave the edges around my images white so I drew in a shadow and outlined them in a light blue. I picked blue to help them stand out from the background. I faded the blue into the watercolor with my colorless blender. You’d never know the two weren’t one 🙂 Stamp your sentiment and your done. This sentiment is one of the many new stamp and cut sentiments Hero Arts released. I bought them all. When you’re in love you just go with it!!

Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to bring all your coloring prowess to our current monthly challenge for a chance to win a gift card to the store!!

A Touch of Gold

Hi, Chark here today, friends. I gotta tell you I absolutely love gold heat embossing. I am the world’s messiest crafter (I can lose my scissors under my supplies 10 times in a craft session), and embossing powder is a big ol’ mess in my hands. However, I love how it looks! So, every so often, I pull out the supplies and the cleaning supplies and go to town. And that’s exactly what I did for today’s post.

I embossed the butterflies in gold and the waves stamp in white. I used my Tombow markers as watercolors (just scribbled on an acrylic block and used a waterbrush to pick up the color) and trimmed and mounted the panels and butterflies. Here it is with blue butterflies and pink/orange background.

pinkbutterfly  And here it is in the opposite colors, pink/orange butterflies and blue background.

bluebutterflyHere they are side by side…which is your favorite? I tried to make them very similar so you could see them with only the colors being different.

I think I like the softer blue background so the butterflies stand out.
